The doctor has prescribed me Erythromycin after saying that I could have one of the many summer viruses out there (Which really didn't help me) mainly for the wheezyness in my chest, my headaches have stopped but the feeling of light headedness and disorientation remain, are these tablets usual to give to suspevted virus sufferers and what is the success rate as i still feel like death.

Hope you feel better soon =)
bigfoot, I am surprised that your GP gave you antibiotics with a viral infection. Generally, viral infections just clear up of their own accord, and it's only with bacteriological infections that they dish out the a-biotics. Why don't you stop taking the tablets and if your lightheadedness stops, you know that it was they wot was causing the problems - and see your GP about this. Also depends on how long you havebeen taking them. He has possibly given you a limited course of the tablets, e.g. 3 a day for a week. However, hope you feel better soon. Chox.
If you are wheezy he may feel you have developed a bacterial chest infection hence antibiotics, don't stop without checking first ....if it gets worse go back anyway

Greedyfly, thanks, I don't usually panic about things like this but when you think it could be something the doctors missed and its been eating you away for several weeks it gets worrying! Especially I take more vitamins and eat healthier than anyone I know!
Chokkie the lightheadedness has being a symptom of whatever I've got as Ive had this weak and disorientated feeling since I was invaded by the virus! I was only given the Antibiotics yesterday so its not them, maybe I should give them a chance to work!

So you're like me and are allergic to penicillin. Antibiotics won't make you feel better I'm afraid, you'll probably have post viral fatigue too....just a matter of time and sticking it out if you get my drift!! hope you feel better soon
Is it a type of hay fever ? Hope you soon feel better. You dont want to be feeling down when the weather is good like this do you. Have a good rest, sometimes thats what we need

Cheers everyone I think they may be working, as the coughing, aches, pains are less pronounced, the head aches after intense coughing fits have subsided but the feeling of weakness, being spaced and the lack of smell and taste remain but I think i may just be on the mend!
glad to hear you're feeling a bit better - sounds as though you are on the mend at last. Keep drinking plenty of fluids - i.e. water and fruit squash - not booze!
