Woe is me.
i broke a tooth a few months back and htought it would be OK -haa !!
Last week the toothache kicked in so vallied and morgan spiced myself up to go to said dentist.I told them i was nervous and then it all kicked in and i was the most relaxed nervous patient they'd had.

Bottom line -tooth had to come out but as i didnt want to look like a JK reject I opted for an impression so i could have a plate fitted afterwards.

I have had an abscess in increasing pain since and last night i didnt sleep and was on the point of driving to Perth to casualty -severe -even tried to take it out myself.

Today -emergency appointment -took 40mins to get the bugger out whilst draining the abscess -fainted momentarily (so im told-well I was upright when i hadnt been before) cos of the trauma and they let me loose to wander the streets to get a script (they didnt know i was so trollied in fairness) -i was slavering and stoating about the streets at 12noon.

Im better now -anyone else had a nighmare experience that they can laugh at now !!

Dris, did'nt they give you antibiotics for the abscess ? I think teeth are a bloody nightmare - I could write a book on the buggers.

Hope you feel better soon. xx

I could give you a catalogue of them. When I was 10, a so-called 'friend' pushed me down a step during a game and I broke my two front teeth. She told me to stop screaming in case her parents found out (she lived next door). I had to have my teeth crowned ... lots of painful visits to the dentist during my teenage years and much micky-taking from said 'friend' and her cronies. I don't t think she ever felt a bit sorry or guilty about what she'd done.

Forty years, thirteen crowns, several extractions and more fillings and root canal treatments than I care to remember, I'm 'looking forward' to my first denture this summer. I have a great dentist - thorough, understanding and never takes 'can't be done' for an answer. She is amazed at how many root canal fillings I already have and was at pains to understand why (she hasn't always been my dentist). When I explained about my childhood accident, she said there's a high chance that the impact caused much more nerve damage than anyone was able to detect at the time and that I'm lucky to have lived this long without losing them all.

Can't say I can look back and laugh at the incident, though, or even at the amount of treatment I've had. I'm just very bitter, and that friend better pray she never has to meet me again, or I may just be tempted to carry out a little dentistry of my own!
saxy - if you can afford it have a titanium dental plate - you won't even know you are wearing it.
Coo sorry Dris, I have at last found a decent dentist but I have always not liked them, since falling off my bike aged 16 and knocking my front tooth clean on. I had anguish some years back with a tooth and despite all the jabs in the world that morning, it wouldn't go numb - in the end another dentist had to come and injected right into the tooth .... I was in there about 3 hours.
Now I have succumbed to crowns I wish I'd done it earlier, save the costant fillings for my weedy remaining teeth.
Oh God, abscesses- been there, done that!

Wouldn't wish toothache on my worst nightmare. Like you, ive had two children and would readily do childbirth again before getting toothache!. Dunno about you, but when I had my abscess I could have murdered someone whilst going through that pain.

No nightmare experiences (other than the pain) I just went in hospital and had the affected teeth (wisdom) pulled. The relief afterwards was unbelievable.

Here's hoping you get better soon :-)
Oooh yes. Years ago I had a big double removed which, down south anyway, is referred to as a 'knee on the chest job' - ie the dentist getting some purchase to get the job done. I just braced myself as he kept yanking away and apologising. Then I noticed the nurse in tears!! Eventually, with quite enormous hole in my gum, which took yonks to heal, I paid for the pleasure at the desk and hurried across the road to the car. I could feel my face swelling alarmingly and closing one eye and raced home. When I got home and rushed into the kitchen for some ice and Aspirin, I saw hubby was home first.

When he saw me - well I couldn't repeat the words here he used at the sight of me! I went to bed but I laughed later when he came up stairs to check if I was going to go to work (in sales) that night. Luckily my pain threshold is good and after the anaesthetic wore off, and the Aspirins, I felt no pain. Hope you can soon laugh a bit about your experience Dris.
Bless you Dris - hope you have aplenty of the self-meds - they are brilliant
Sadly, DEN, I can't afford any more than standard NHS treatment. However I trust my dentist to give me the best she possibly can. She has said that I would actually be a perfect patient for implants as I have a strong, well-shaped jawbone and gums, and I heal quickly. I even have a friend who's a private dentist who would do them for me, but even with his mate's rates it would still be far more than I could afford.
Many years ago I went for the old favourite... a tooth extraction.
The dentist had a hell of a job and stopped part way through and asked me to rinse.
When I tried to put the beaker down I spilled some of the contents of the rinse.. down the side of the bowl ( and onto the floor).
With all his might he started hauling again, still having great difficulty... the next he's gone...where to I did'nt know.... I glanced down the side of the chair and he's only lying on the floor with his pliers in his hand, gripping a bloody tooth.
The next thing I looked at his assistant who then went all woozy and clapsed onto my chest....all of a sudden I felt a warm glow all down my kneck and then onto my chest.
It was'nt having a strange attractive lady lying on my chest that had caused the warm glow, but the rush of blood pouring out of my mouth as the dentist had slashed my gum as he went @rse over ti..
By this time the dentist was back on his feet apologising for his assistant, and trying to bring her round so she could call me an ambulance...!

Dris, I feel for you. Dontcha just wanna smack 'em one?

Alan Carr, the comedian, tells of how he fell onto a caravan tow-gear when he was a kid and bashed his teeth to bits, which is why his adult teeth came through all wonky despite braces and loads of treatment. I know it's been a bit of a pay off for him but I wince every he tells that story.
am so scared of the dentist, i waited 18 months after breaking a molar to see a dentist about it. i was finally in so much agony, i hadn't eaten solids for three weeks! looking back, the extraction actually wasn't that bad and i was gutted that i had endured so much pain, sensitivity and infections before getting it sorted out. i am, however, still so scared of the detist i get trollied before going and take as many prescription drugs as is humanly possible before going...that way, the dentist could do anything and i couldn't give a fig! disappointingly, i lost the tooth's neighbour two days before last christmas, so my dinner went in the blender! x
