Hi, I have the same problem everytime I try to colour my hair at home.,some advice would be REALLY welcome. My hair is long /brunette. I start the colour from the roots as recommended then comb it through. However my hair is ALWAYS darker on the roots/fringe . This is because it takes longer to go on all over.,consequently the colour stays on longer on the top.
May seem logical to do it the other way round , but not possible.
Could any hairdressers or home colouring experts , give me some tips.- thanks

You can start at the mid-lenghs (just above you ears) and rub down into the ends - Leaving about a inch/inch and a half from the roots, then when done, do your fringe and roots. Ive bleached my hair and thats how you do it to avoid your roots going orange Lol
Are you using enough dye? I have hair that just touches my shoulders and I use one box but, just another " of hair and I would need ot use 2 boxes to get maximum coverage
When my hair was long If I was doing a full head it wasn't unheard of to use 3 boxes on my hair
My hair is short and when I colour it I put the creme on my hair and rub in as if using shampoo. This means that the colour goes all over the hair quickly and I do not have a problem with timing. You could try this to see if it will help but you must be thorough and ensure you do not miss any bits.
All of the above especially the need for more colour also try to find a pre colour conditioner you can get them from hairdressing suppliers work a little into the bits that take the dye most before you start. I think they include one with the recital and preference ranges now... check the packaging
I wouldn't comb it through. Do as anniebird says and massage it all over your hair at the same time but concentrate on the roots a bit to make sure they're covered.

Thanks for all the brilliant replies, will try them out. Will give the recital and preference range a try next. A friend of mine suggested that I could put it on as usual but rinse it out of the fringe sooner. Dont know if anyones got any thoughts on that. think it would be a bit messy. I have massaged all over when I have used semi -permanent but never permanent. - thanks again
