My hubby can't get an appt at the podiatrist till mid-May and his toenails really do need cutting now. I've got some of those super dooper nail clippers but with a bit of arthritis in me fingers I still find cutting them difficult. Yes I make him soak his feet for 15 mins but is there something I can add to the water to soften them? or something you can reccomend to buy to help?
I and he would be grateful for any suggestions.

PS D'ya like my avatar?

an orange and pink jelly bean person thing.

HHMMM, it sounds as if you're in a pickle, is the water in your area generally soft or hard, if its on the hard side, you could add water softener.
Your Jelly men are cute :-)

I've seen them before somewhere....
Yeah the default :-)

Why not use an emery board or something similar instead ?
Water softener for his toenails? Do you think that will work?
scholl do a toenail softener, you put it on for a few days before cutting, ask you chemist
my auntie lives in an area with hard water, so their water has softener in it.

Bet she has nice soft nails then Molly!!!
Use olive oil ... don't you?!

Alternatively .. borrow one of my angle grinders : )
Don't waste your money on Dr. Scholl stuff, that one don't work.
soda crystals/bath salts - strong mixture = cup to basin of skin hot water.

Now thats a good idea Tam, soda crystals mmmm? I've got Bicarb might do it. I use it to soften all the baked goo on my baking dishes, I'll give it a go.
Thanks for all other suggestions, by the way moore890 can't use me teeth but I could try giving 'em a good suck. Tee-hee!
Your hubby's not diabetic is he? Because if so, you should probably wait for the appointment.

Otherwise a hot bath would soften them enough surely?

Yes China Doll he is diabetic but at this moment he's in pain because the pressure from his shoe is creating a prob. also I don't think he's got a pair of socks now without holes, so need to do them now.
PS Have done them now with a lot of effort may I say, but he's releaved. Had a long bath with a handful of bath salts (soda) did the trick. He hasn't had a bath for years!

Awwww... Keep an eye on it then Jem, sure you know all about risks with feet if you're diabetic but at least he's had some relief :c)
