My nails are very hard and grow quite long, then I suddenly bang one into something and it breaks really low down on the side. Is there anything that will stop the break getting bigger (special glue ?) and then the whole nail breaking off really low down ? Thanks all. I've tried superglue, doesn't work.

In our house we use Sally Hansen's "Hard as Nails". It's a clear, strong nail varnish with nylon.
Had it for years but don't know if it's still available.
years ago i used to use clear nailvarnish with layers of tissue paper between when i split a nail. layer it up well and the tissue is so thin it its almost impossible to see.
maybe rubbing a cuticle type oil into the nail would help - seems like maybe your nails are too hard and need a bit of flexibility. Actually a friend of mine who used to do a bit of beauty therapy recommended just olive oil. put a small amount in a bowl and put that bowl in a another bowl that has hot water in it to warm it a bit. then steep your nails for a little while then rub in. Obviusly would need to rinse after or would be a bit greasy - only use a little.
