I was just reading the thread on chat up lines and was thinking about how my husband first told me that he 'loved' me.  It was hilarious.  I wonder if anybody else has any stories to tell.

You can tell I'm bored!  I'm back to work tomorrow after a long time off sick, so I'm making the most of today.

When I've had a few answers from others.

Aaaah memories of my first boyfriend. (Lasted 3yrs from age 11 - 14 when he went to America, sob).   One morning, much to my embarrassment I found he'd written in 2ft high letters I Love 'noddy' outside my house. And then he carved our names into a bench in the woodwork room of a brand new school. He got into trouble but the names remained for years. Often wonder about him.

(hope you sort your mum's problems Fp)

I accidentally told Mr Monkey i loved him after a week of knowing him! I'd gone to a friends wedding and there was free drink and I was a little bit tipsy..well, maybe a LOT tipsy..and i decided to call him from the payphone there. we had a little chat and just as we were saying goodbye i said 'Love you' to him but i didn't hear his reaction cos it was the last thing i said! it's really weird but it just seemed so normal to say it to him. I freaked out a bit cos i'd only known him a week and i thought he'd think i was a crazy woman. I was hoping he hadn't heard but couldn't bring myself to ask him! Ages afterwards he admitted that he had heard me and hadn't minded at all. we've now been together 3 and half years

Might tell you soon!
I proposed to my good wife on a weekend break to Brussels.  She had taken me away for my birthday so wasn't expecting it.  I was going to do it at my great granddad's place of burial (one of the reasons we went to Belgium) but left it 'til a little later in a quiet little Italian restaurant.  She promptly went white and started hypeventilating.  We had to do the paper bag trick!  Still, 3 hours later she said yes after plying her with Valpolicella and strong Belgian beer.
When my fella proposed to me this year in the middle of a restaraunt, he'd gone quiet due to nerves and I thought he didn't like the food. The further into the meal we got the more convinced I was that he felt sick and didn't like the food. When we got to dessert I said "Look, if you don't feel well we can go home - I don't mind", then he leant forward and next thing I know he was kneeling on the floor. I then thought he was going to spew, but he asked me to marry him instead which I was pleased abut ;-)
A week after we met, myself and my fiance were lying watching the tv in my room, when he turned to me and said "do you love me?" I was stunned and said that yes i was very fond of him, but i wasn't sure if i loved him yet. He looked a little heart broken but after a few minutes silence he said "I asked you because i love you..." I have to admit that i did love him, but didn't want to rush into saying it. Anyway 2 weeks later and a few drinks downed i plucked up the courage to say it back, and he didn't think i meant it, so i had to repeat it the next day when i was sober........love eh???

Well, it only seems like yesterday, and will stick in my mind in all its detail forever.  We were in his parents kitchen having a coffee after a night out.  I was actually making the coffee when he came up and put his arms around me and said:

"You know, you remind me of my dog"

You can imagine my first reaction.

Then he said:

"You look like my dog, you have the same sad brown eyes.  I do love my dog, so I suppose I must love you".

The dog in question was a male German Shepherd called Prince.

The proposal was about three months later, but that's another story.

Men say the nicest things eh FP? We were play fighting once and I tried to do an angry face when he said I looked like Predator. He still says it now, that it's my teeth and my eyes apparently. I told him he looked like the inbred from Wrong Turn.
My now husband of 8 years was totally against marriage when I met him.  Then after 18 months of being boyfriend/girlfriend, on the walk home through our local park after a night out, he decided to ask me to marry him.  And where was I during this moment of romantic history - having a wee in a large bush!  I told him he was drunk and I would only say yes if it was the first thing he asked me the next morning.  To his credit, he woke me up the next day and asked again - and I said yes again.  Oh well, it's one to tell the grandkids.

LOL, Rock Mommy!

My husband and I were both absolutely blotto when we decided to get married.  In fact, we got thrown out of a restaurant.  It was in Benidorm of all places!  When I woke up the next morning I couldn't believe what had happened.   I think it was a great shock to both of us as we both were very anti marriage.   We got married 6 weeks later! That was in 1972.

I am laughing and jealous at the same time....I have never ever heard those three little words. And my mum saying them doesn't count!
aaww! georgit honey your time will come x
My bf proposed on xmas day, but I was kind of expecting him to, I was only sorry that I had wet hair, no make up and was in my dressing gown! I guess I should be glad that he still wants to marry me looking like that!
i think i may have ruined the 'big proposal' thing for myself! Me and my man have spoken about getting married and the fact that we're definitely going to do it one day. But i've told him he still has to get down on one knee and surprise me with it because even though we've already agreed we are going to get married i still want a great proposal story. I threatened that i'd get Spurs to put it up on their big screen at half time if he didn't ask me properly!

Outside a Shell gargage after I had driven her home after she had had a car crash.  I suspect it was the shock, but the smell of petrol (Smudge!) has always triggered memories.
