Breast biopsy, why the long route

I've just had a breast biopsy. The lump was on the bottom half of my breast. Why does the doctor enter through the top of my breast taking the long route down with a giant needle? Why not just enter my breast from the bottom?

A very, very good question for which I have no answer.
Maybe because the part where he took the biopsy for gave a better representation of the prevalence of the lump.
