Have you ever had a boil on the backside, and if so, how long did it last? I've had mine 3 or 4 weeks now. Also got swollen glands, abdominal pains (liver and spleen), mild jaundice and lethargy. I'm awaiting test results for antibodies, or something. It's all pointing to Epstein Barr, which I've had before. Another user accused me of attention seeking, cos I've still got this boil, after several weeks. Therefore, I must be making it up! lol

Yepp....can't think of a better diagnosis and if this is the case, then no Spain at the weekend.

Hepatitis A as a 200-1 outsider.

Sqaddy baby! Had hep a + booster in 2003 (for travel to Turks and Caicos).

So how long can a boil on the 'arris last?

Spain is non-negotiable. I have work, plus the outlaws are coming!
Not if the monospot test is +......no Spain.

Boil should setlle within 2 weeks. Who said it was a boil, and has pus come out?

HepA is out then.
Isn't it ...

"Double, double toil, and trouble" ... etc ?
(sorry to hear about the boil, though)
JJ....cancel that bet, 0-0 tonight.
Not a chance !!

Well, it's red, lumpy and hard. It is a little bit smaller now. I haven't really had a good look, but there doesn't appear to be a white head to it. Spoke to the Registrar earlier and he didn't rule out travel to Spain. He suggested coming into the surgery before Saturday if I'm still feeling rough, but what's the point if the results aren't back, and they can't do anything for EBV anyway?

Thanks JJ! xx
No, but if pos, you will still be infectious and if the jaundice gets worse, you might need steroids or a liver biopsy.
Don't be bllody daft....cancel Spain.

This red thing is iy on the cheeks or is it close to the anus?

Registrar is a hospital position not a GP.
DON'T cancel Spain !!!

Sqad - my blood count and liver function tests have come back normal. I'm just waiting on the antibody tests now. The boil is just on the edge, near the crack, so to speak.
The guy I saw last Wednesday is new, and he referred to himself as a Registrar, and even told me to call him by his first name. I was a little puzzled, but didn't question it.

JJ - there is more chance of Bin Laden inviting me to his son's Bar Mitzvah than me cancelling Spain ! xx
Well it doesn't sound like a boil, it may well be an unresolved ischio-rectal abscess which may need treatment.

Blood tests.......how can the LFT's be normal if you are jaundiced...impossible.?

If the blood tests were normal, how can a diagnosis of EBV be entertained......abnormal monocytes would be seen.?

Many questions unanswered.

1 blood test showed that my blood count is normal - therefore I am not anaemic. Another one showed that my liver is ok and functioning normally. The jaundice was in my eyes, and is now almost completely faded. They are just waiting for the blood tests to show if there are any antibodies which will tell them more. I don't have a clue what he was on about this morning, but I just have to ring again in a few days time.
Right.....oh! by the way I meant perianal abscess NOT ischio-rectal.
