hi for a couple of days now i have had a pain which is there mainly when i am sitting or laying down, at the top of my right bum cheek, its not quite so bad when i am walking around, but when i go to get up from the chair or out of bed i am in agony, it even hurt when i pulled up the handbrake on the car, someone told me it sounded like siatica but i thought you also got pain down your leg with this and i am not getting any pain in the leg.

Sounds like a musculo skeletal strain of some sort..lumbago I would hazard a guess. Try taking non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and report back in a week.

ive been taking 400mg ibroufen but does'nt seem to be doing much to help the pain
It could be sciatica, the pain doesn`t always go down the leg. Is it a nervy type pain like a nagging toothache?
I've also been wondering if I too have Sciatica. It also starts from my right bum cheek and if I stand up from sitting or from a lower position, I get a strange shooting pain down my thigh. It is sudden and brief, but feels almost like my leg willl give way.

Could this be Sciatica?

no trish its not really a nagging pain more when i go to get up the only way i can describe it is as if my back is going to give out completely and i'm going to end up like a heap on the floor, or if i sit more to the right side its like something is pressing on a nerve, just rubbed some tiger balm in hope thats going to help a bit.
Sounds like your muscle is going into a spasm. perhaps you have somehow pulled the muscle, carry on with the tiger balm and put a ice pack on for a few minutes, a packet of frozen peas will do. I did the same thing a couple of months ago and still have it, also try putting a pillow between your knees when in bed.
