Silly isn't it, but people will always find something to take the mickey about. It seems especially silly when you look at how many people spend lots of money colouring their hair red and then are rude about red headed people. Redheads should be proud of their hair colour.
Maybe because it is quite rare, and people always take the micky out of those who are different?
It's funny, I am a ginge and have grown up being the butt of many a joke and peoples curious interest in the colour of my pubic hair. As a child I wished more than anything that I had different colour hair. Now I'm an adult though, I'm actually very proud of my Ginger-ness. Infact I was a little miffed when my wife informed me that I was actually blonde these days. I felt almost robbed of my identity. But gingers are a minority that receives much prejudice. The kind of comments that I have received and continue to occasionaly receive would never be accepted were they levelled at a person of asian or afro-carribean origin. But hey at least there are lot's of ginger role-models for us all to aspire to...like, erm....and...erm....Oh well, never mind.
I am Fakeplastic, I am!!! Nearly on the half century and not a grey hair in sight!! No colourant, tints etc. Bliss!! Hi sochi, how you doing? It is cruel what some teenagers do to others. My son's suffered badly from bulling because of their red hair, but now it doesn't bother them. They sort of got used to it and ignored it, but it was distressing for them at the time, especially if their surname had some of the letters changed, as it ended up a very offensive word.
You could try saying "At least my hair HAS a colour!". Most people's hair is a pooey brown, or a mousey nothing. It's better to be striking than to look like everyone else!
For many cultures, red hair has been particular sought after - strange that it should be singled out really. Of course, there are some ginger people who have orange skin, and that is not, in my opinion attractive. I say this as someone married to a redhead, and known to my friends as a 'ginger chaser' (although I would dispute that - I've been out with women with all manner of hair colours).
I have naturally auburn hair and now dye it pillarbox red (hence the username!) I love being a redhead, although idiots do shout "red hair!" at me in the street quite often. I just ignore it. My role model is the writer and presenter Jane Goldman - the sexiest redhead ever!
I have red hair, which is now very dark, but when i was at school it was lighter. That was always the 1st thing anyone picked on, it never really bothered me coz my hair wasnt bright orange like some other people in my class but it still hurts! Now its very long+dark underneath+i have blonde highlights along the top. At least 1 person a day tells me i have lovely hair+they love the colour! Im glad its natural coz everybody is getting theirs died+it costs a fortune!
Also, i read somewhere that in the in hundreds of years ago people thought that red hair was associated with the devil! Maybe they're scared!
