Strange bleeding/periods.

I'm 19 and started my periods when I was 9.... so I've had 10 years of getting to know my cycle... and I know it very well.Only the last 2 periods have been strange, especially the last one.
Normally I have pains about 3 days before coming on.. and my periods are always medium and last for about 4-5 days.
However the last one (strangest one) couldn't really even be called a period. It was more of just one big gush of blood. In the evening I had a thick brown discharge (and I never have any discharge) and then went to bed... during that night I had a lot of pain, so much I couldn't sleep. Felt worse than any period I've ever had.... and the next day I woke to find I had had one huge gush of blood. Since then, there has been no bleeding at all (none of my normal 4-5 day bleeding) just that one bleed. And now, today I have a strange pain in the one side of my back that goes down, like a nerve pain. I had this pain last month, and I've never had it before. It got me thinking that maybe I was pregnant last month, and that was what the back pain was... there were other pregnancy symptoms also... so in that case, would this have been a miscarriage?
The only thing is that I only had sex with my partner about 3 times in one week, which was 2 months ago... and he's had a vasectomy... so it's very unlikely. And there has been no sexual intercourse since then. Just those 3 times.
Has anyone had any similar situation... do any of you know what this could be?
Thanks for your help in advance.

You should get checked out medically to be on the safe side
hi emma,
you know that everyone on here is going to say the same thing! It does sound like a miscarriage, but everyone is different aren't they?
You poor thing, whatever it was you shouldn't put up with such pain and discomfort. go and see your dr in the morning.

Well actually.... the thought of a miscarriage was always in the back of my mind, but because it was so unlikely for me to get pregnant in the first place, I just thought I was overthinking it. You end up feeling silly for telling anyone in the first place that you suspect you're pregnant when your partner's had the snip. xx
