Im a tenant of a housing association and today when checking my bedroom found the whole floor saturated with water,,,,my carpet is ruined and also my bed (i have to have the mattress on the floor due to disability) is soaked through and had to be chucked out.....I found out that the water pipe on the radiator in my bedroom has corroeded completly allowing the radiator to empty all over my bedroom floor and bed.....The plumber has been out and fixed the radiator but I dont see why I should be expected to pay out for a new bed and carpet.....I am now having to sleep on a blow up bed in my lounge (which i had to go and buy) until my bedroom is completely dried out......

Do i have legal rights to claim compensation for the carpet and bed from my housing association as surely the maintance of the radiators is down to them???

Im so mad as both my husband and I are disabled and now dont have a bedroom.......

If you don't have insurance for contents, then you should talk to the housing association.

For you to be legally entitled to claim compensation, you must prove the housing association was negligent in some way.

For example, they have failed to properly maintain the property or refused to do anything when you have reported problems with the property.

having previously worked for a housing association we used to get claims for things far less serious than what has happened to you and they were paid, although this depends on your HA, if it is a private housing association this may be a lot harder to get compensation as they will be profit motivated however if it is a local council HA then they will be a non profit organisation and more likely to pay,

you can also go along the lines of them neglecting their duty as i would imagine it will take a long time for a pipe to totally corrode and it should of been checked

make a claim, the worst that can happen is they say no
