marina coil
hi can anyone help me i got the marina coil fitted a year ago 4 months ago my hair started to fall out .i went to the doc who said not worry as i had lots of hair and i did it was down to my elbow and really thick .a few weeks later i went back as one side was nearly all bald and the other side wasent much better the doc couldent belive it had fell out so quickly.he sent me to get some blood took a week later it all came back clear .by this time i have only got i little bit left on the left hand side he was felling my scalp and told me there was no hair folical there and it was more in likely that my hair wouldent grow back.he has reffered me to a dermatolaget witch i see on the 3rd dec .my partner look up unexpected hair lose on the internet and the marina coil came up hundreds and hundres of woman with the same problem as me and thay all said it was because of the marina coil .i phone to get mine taken out and thay took it out the next day after i tol them my concerens the doc who took it out i told her what i thought about the marina coil and she dident disagree with me she told me to keep a video diary and she would wave a yellow flag to the company i have kept a video diary and 10days later my hair has starrted to grow back ,do i have a case against the makers of the marina coil. this has caused me no end of discomfort i have had to cancall my wedding witch was on the 28th of nov i dident want to be a baldy bride im quite deppressed at the momment and i no its because of my hair .thank you

No you do not, simply because it is one of the stated and known side effects of this particular coil. it would be like saying "can i sue them because i got pain from the coil" when it is a documented side effect. For your interest, other side effects include: "abdominal pain; peripheral oedema; nervousness; salpingitis and pelvic inflammatory disease; pelvic pain, back pain; rarely hirsutism, hair loss, pruritus, migraine, rash"
you have just been very unlucky and had one of the side effects that can occur. It is the same when taking any drug - you have to balance out the risk verses the benefits. Even paracetamol has risks, so you have to work out whether you are prepared to take that risk. side effects are rare but d happen as you have found out. Did the person who inseted it give you any nformation (written or verbal) about it? Mind you, i expect if they had given you info and said "there is a miniscule chance of hair loss" you probably would have had it any way

sorry, that is not true. the yellow card system is also for reporting adverse drug reactions (of which this is one)

i dont know if you are being sarcastic or just completely not understanding what i am saying. Hair loss is a known side effect of this drug, therefore if you seek a solicitors advice you will be paying a lot of money for nothing - you cannot sue the drug company for experiencing a known side effect!. if anything, the person who recommended and fitted the coil is at fault for not telling you the possible consequences, but even this is shaky because as i said, they dont often tell you about every single side effect (mainly in order not to scare you) and also because this information is available in the public domain already (as you have found out by searching the internet. it must be awful for you, but if you are going to save up for a wedding, i suspect you can probably ill afford to pay for a solicitor who specializes in medical law, just to tell you the same as i have. Have you considered using the NHS complaints system first about the person who didnt tell you the possible side effects. This is at least free, and you will be able to get soe idea about hw sucessful a law suit would be
