Green funerals and woodland burials are becoming increasingly popular

My sister was buried in a whicker coffin 10 years ago, the lid was laced on with a rope.
A friend of mine was cremated in a wicker coffin last year.
Gotta say it looked like a laundry basket- it had ribbons + bows on it.
As the others say, green funerals/coffins are probably the best way. You can have them entwined with flowers, and instead of a headstone etc., you can have a tree planted instead (with a plaque to mark the person's resting place in some cases). if I can't have the arrangements I'd like, then this'd be my second choice.
A friend of mine had a cardboard coffin, but it looked very sturdy and stylish, with a tasteful oak veneer finish on the outside.

The friend had a woodland burial, and I'm told cardboard coffins (and probably whicker now) are the norm for this, as the material decomposes more quickly. I didn't go to the burial, only the church service, but I'm told woodland burials are shallower than standard burials as a shallower grave allows more oxygen to enter the coffin and thus helps the remains to decompose more quickly.
Are they cheaper?
Yes, they are Velvetee.
Do you know how much Ice? I think I'd like one. I wonder if they come in a variety of colours.
You can have a coffin made from banana leaves, more enviromentally friendly! . Husband works in funerals so I get these obscure bits of info.

What a laugh Eddie! I know an Eddie down the pub, its not you is it?? Do you feel ill at all?
Cardboard coffin and cremation for me at Woodland site near here. No service, just a favourite piece of music. My mother who is nearly 90 wants the same.
Cremation and woodland site don't sit together, somehow.

Oh and yes I want a tree planted and my ashes scattered round it to help it on it's way.
Can't bear the thought of burial Ethel and besides the ashes are good for fertiliser.
Oh - woodland burials are considered very 'green' and eco-friendly which cremations certainly aren't.

Have a real fear of being buried Ethel, so it will have to be a compromise. Our family tradition has always been for cremations and very low key affairs.
I have no problem with cremation. :)
