My Mum thinks she was stung recently-she felt a sharp pain in her ankle like a sting and although there's no redness now she still gets an intermittent stinging sensation. Is it possible for a sting to break off and get stuck in the skin and is there any danger if it has?

My Grandma was stung and had the sting left in her face she managed to get it out with tweezers eventually.

quite a cool name actually, wish I'd thought of it!
Yes it is possible that the sting remained in your Mums'.
I was once stung by a bee in my face, at the bottom of my jaw bone really, and the sting remained there for a couple years. It was always itchy until one day I scratched it so hard, the skin bruised and the sting came out.

My daughter is a sting-magnet and has had to deal with some nasty ones that wont come out.

We tried for about a year, trying to squeeze it out probably every few weeks and then we started putting an ice cube on it, to try and needle it (sterilized of course). Although the needle didnt do much, i believe that the ice really helped bring it out and one day it was gone!

What a relief ;)
