Does anybody care about Tibet?

Why is it that China has been allowed to get away with the horrific genecide in Tibet. The Chinese government have lied constantly with their progoganda. The Chinese have tortured , killed and imprisoned the Tibetans for years, and forcing steralisation on people who cannot pay the high charges forced on them by chinese officials. Why hasn't someone stopped this or is it because Tibet has nothing to offer the rest of the world so nobody really cares? What does anyone else think?

how can you sure what you hear and see from media here are all real? this time western media made up lots ppictures, video, reports etc. about the tibet. there are billilon chinese people protest agaist western media at moemtn about the wrong report, and they are not presenting the government. have you ever heard of them?
i wouldnt say which right which wrong, i cant judge it, but i do believe there is not absolutely freedom, also media is controled by politics and government everywhere. do that easy to believe what you have heard unless you are the witness.

It may well be an oil thing as mentioned, but also as in Chechenya it may be the diplomatic �fear� of antagonising fellow superpowers (China and Russia respectively). A danerous enemy to have. China effectively has as much if not more right to be in Tibet than we have to be in Iraq or Afghanistan, albeit under invasion, oppression and the repudiated Seventeen Point Agreement by the Dalai Llama shortly after his exile.
I don�t think that the US or UK should take direct action, but I certainly think NATO should stop sitting on their backsides and take a stance and India should definitely take some lead in appeasing the situation. France and Germany have spoken out, but its all words and no action really.
In the last five decades the global community seems to have developed amnesia over China�s military occupation of Tibet and the ethnic, religious and cultural genocide that China has relentlessly inflicted on the Tibetan nation. Periodic Tibetan uprisings in almost every decade are brutally suppressed by China who is confident that no international murmurs will follow. 60 years or forceful repression has not stymied Tibetan desire for independence, so it is an issue that will not go away.
Perhaps it is only a matter of time before the familiarly oppressed but peace loving Tibetans turn out a generation of suicide bombers to get their voices heard on the global stage.

Octavious I have to say I do agree with you and I also agree we, as a nation, are not squeeky clean ourselves, far from it.
With regard to Mirela's post, what is it Mirela that you thought was hype from the Western media about Tibet?? don't know how old you are but Tibet goes back a long way and most people are aware of the atrocities the Chinese are doing but don't want to get involved. I feel sorry for these peaceful people. They are not aggressive as some peoples are and do not deserve the treatment they are receiving.

im n ot against those people, but why they wanna independent and separate from china.? they dont have strong local government, no strong economic, less developed. even they got independence they still have to rely on a stronger power, like america or western countires. chinese government tried to give lots support to develope this area, also give them lots freedom to find their own way about economic development.
i have friends from Tibet, never heard them complaining about the government. my piont is never easily believing western or UA government trying to help low developed countries, because they have a kind heart. ..

And what was that about the chinese giving them freedom? You are under a sad illusion M if you seriously think that. Can you give me an example of the chinese giving them their freedom, - was it the camps they put them in, the false panchen lama to worship, the constant presence of chinese military police. The beating and torture of buddhist monks and nuns, not to mention they took their living away - Most of the people you see in Tibet now are chinese not Tibetants as they are not allowed to have children unless they can afford the 1 child otherwise they are given steralisation, sorry forced to have sterilisation.
Panic Button is absolutely right, don't buy any chinese goods, they are most likely to be made by Tibetan prisoners who are tortured if they do not make their daily quota of toys.
I would be most interested to meet your Tibetan friends, having been there and met the most wonderful people years ago, I know that chinese rule is the worst thing that could possibly have happened to them, worse is the fact that people outside of Tibet think it is a good thing. Very sad.

Eyeshade, I don't see how you can say that the situation in Tibet is totally different to the situation in Kenya or Zimbabwe or other African countries, simply because they are not having forced sterilisations? Women and children are, however, being gang raped, being told by their government that AIDS can be cured by a herbal tea, being butchered for not having the "right" political or religious views and being purposely starved of food, water and medical supplies. I am not saying that you are wrong, I am merely saying that I don't that Tibet is any worse off than any other country that is reported like that.
What about Rwanda in the mid 90s? Who helped them? I can see your point that maybe they don't offer us anything economically and so we (as a Western society) are less likely to be involved despite what is going on but I also agree that mirela has a very valid point in that we don't seem to know the full story and our media is incredibly protected.
