I prefer Slimming world as there is more to eat and I find it easier to stick too
It cost about 10 to join for the book etc and then it's 4.50 per week
I need to lose 2 stone as I rejoined on Monday
I need to group for support and plus you get lots of recipe ideas
Once you get into it it's great and the food is really healthy so have loads more energy

Thanks, I've just been looking on the net and I get the general opinion Slimming World is the preferred one. However, I read somewhere that you only get 4 holiday weeks a year so are you tied into a years contract?...Or is that weight watchers?

I walk past 1 every week on the way home can I just turn up? Also how long are the classes?
If you stick to these diets, do they work??
I did slimming world on my own about 5 years ago as I wanted to loose about a stone and a half. I liked it because I am not a big meat eater and it allowed me to eat loads!! As guidance I used one of their cookbooks and I also bought the magazine-way cheaper than classes! It took me a little over 4 months of slow and steady loss....I walked a LOT. I have kept it off.....I still follow the the diet basics and I walk several miles a day.
I prefer slimming world. I was on their food optimising plan a couple of years ago and lost 1st 11lb and found it really easy to follow and stick to. unfortunately i fell back into my old habits and put it all back on :-( I joined again 5 weeks ago and have lost 11lb. once you start going to group you can access all areas of the website and record your progress. I find it helps to see your weight loss plotted on a graph as it makes it easy to see how well you are doing. in short, I say go for it with slimming world!

Pastafreak did you start out doing the classes and once you'd picked it up you just started getting the magazines instead?

I do a fair bit of walking as well to and from work approx 1.30 hrs per day 5 days a week and its generally at a quick pace...I'm usually running late!

I think I will join or at least go along to find out more. anyone else got any slimming world/weight watchers experiences they want to share?

Thanks poohshunny I think its gonig to be a slimming world membership :o )
Slimming World has a 'red day - green day' system -- certain food groups on certain days. It revolves around food combining, and may not always suit your lifestyle.

Weight Watchers on the other hand is more about a point and calorie system, and so many supermarkets have their meals that you might always be able to find their snacks if you've forgotten them at home.

Both are effective in achieving weight loss, though I think Weight Watchers will be easier to stick to for the duration. Aim to loose it slowly and steadily, it's the surest way to keep it off (and think of longer term as well, what you're going to do when you come off the diet as that's what counts the most!!)

Best of luck.
No,lovenut-I did it on my own because there wasn't a class nearby. As I said-I found it quite easy...and I was shocked at how muct I ate!! Now I find if I go 4-5 lb over it is very easy to shed it. x
You do get 4 holiday weeks a year but if you miss a few it's better just 2 rejoin again.
Yes, you can just walk in or if you go on website and put in your post code they will tell you who the group leader is and you can ring them for a chat.
New members sit together while the group leader goes through it all and offers you to sit through the class so at the end you decide if you still want to join or not
I do bit of exercise each day and have just been dancing round the kitchen BUT you don't have to do any if you don't want too
It bests to do light exercise anyhow as I think it works better than a massive hard core session
Best thing is that you are made to feel welcome at slimming world
when I first joined after the birth of my son in 2006 I had six stone to lose and I thought I bet I am the biggest there but I wasn't
I loved that group but when I moved I had to find another which lead me to stray and hence the 2 stone weight gain
Even if you go to one group and dont like it there are more to try
as once you are a member and keep up with the weekly fee you can go to any group you like
With slimming world you can do any combo of red (meat based)/green (complex carb)days...so you can do ONLY red if that is what suits you-or.alternate the two...whatever is best for you.
On slimming world can you have in one day, a red meal and then a green meal????

Thanks you lot my local slimming world is on a Tuesday and like I said I walk straight past it so I might as well.

Has anyone with PCOS (http://hcd2.bupa.co.uk/fact_sheets/html/PCOS.h tml) had any experience with the slimming world diet plan?
Yes if you do mix to max day x
When I did it,you had either red or green days.
Question Author
So you dont mix them?
That is why I'm asking.

When I knew it, it was as Pasta said, either red or green
no mixing at all.

Now I have heard people saying they mix meals, red for lunch and green for dinner!!
Wouldn't that defeat the point.....the diet is set up so that those who prefer one food group over another can indulge yet still eat a balanced diet.
i have done both, more than once, and had success at both (4.5 - 5 stone) however they differ and i follow whichever one i find fits my lifestyle at the time. Slimming world is easier if i have the time and inclination to cook from scratch myself and you can pig out on various food depending if you are having a red or green day. When im dashing around eating more ready prepared foods i find ww better as you can literally eat anything as long as you work out the points. hope that makes sense and helps you!
