it depends on what the benefits are. i have an idea that dla can be paid for a certain amount of time in EU countries. Stuff like job seekers allowance, housing benefit, council tax benefit obviosly not
What sort of benefits? He won't be able to get jobseekers allowance, disability living allowance, he may be entitled to some form of incapacity benefit.
