There has been a 12% rise in people having cosmetic surgery, 91% of these people were women. The most popular operations were breast enlargement operations followed by eye lid surgery and face lifts. Do you think cosmetic is more popular than it ever has been? Do you know people who have had it done and would you consider it yourself?

It is more popular - because it is seen as more acceptbale than in times past. The cultural shift in attitudes towards appearence enhancement coincides with an upsurge in availability, and the increased proffile of proceedures.

I know someone who has had breast implants. i think she looks oddly 'inflated', but she is delighted, and that is what it's about. Surgery has little to do with what the individual looks like, it is what they 'feel' they look like. Self-image, or lack of it, is the root of the increase in surgical proceedures.

I think it is a little late for me by now - but I would still think about having my 'stick-out' ears pinned back - although I don't seriously consider it.
I've had a few procedures done following a substantial weightloss - tummy tuck, breast uplift, upper abdominal tuck, hip & thigh liposuction and a gastric band fitted to make sure the weight stays off. It does become addictive because it makes such a drastic difference to your apearance instantly and, personally speaking, has made a immense difference to my self esteem and my whole outlook on life. Looking at it objectively it's very selfish - it's not cheap, it's an unnecessary risk of a general anaesthetic and any resulting complications (I've been very lucky and had none whatsoever so far, touch wood), but from a subjective perspective it's changed my life so it was worth every penny to me and every ounce of discomfort for the end result!
Yes, I know peole who've had all sorts of things done to themselves. Sometimes it makes a great improvement, but others just look silly. The thing is, most cosmetic surgery's done to make a person feel better about themselves. Maybe that's not a bad thing, but no amount of surgery can change a person's nature. If you're unhappy with yourself because of the way you look, you'll just find something else to be unhappy about once that's rectified. It might give a temporary boost, but what happens when things start to sag again after a few years? I'd rather be natural and happy than plastically boosted, but it's each to their own.
A friend of mine has had a tummy tuck, a full face lift & a few other bits & bobs done. Although she looked fine to us before she had cosmetic surgery, she has gained a lot more confidence since.

I personally wouldn't have it done & apart from her, I don't know anyone else who has - yet!
I would say the rise in cosmetic surgery is due to people having more money.

I have already had cosmetic surgery and I am very happy with it. Might consider more as I get older, will cross that bridge when I come to it!

I have also come to know that there is a significant rise in the number of people taking these cosmetic surgeries. According to American society of plastic surgeons (ASPS), there are about 14.6 million people taken these surgeries in the United States last year. The advantages of these surgeries and the aspiration of people are the main reasons for this rise. You can have an immediate effect with these surgeries where you can recover from these kinds of surgeries within a week. It is easy for people to take down these surgeries. If you are hoping to look for more about this surgery, find at http://www.theshawcenter.com/
