I am 25 weeks pregnant and for the past week I have had this pain at the top of my bum on one side. It seems to be getting worse and its very painful when I walk. It makes that side very stiff and its driving me mad. Does anyone know what this pain might be? Could it be a trap nerve? Im starting to worry it might be something serious?

i would get it checked out to be sure but i had the same and the midwife said the baby was just lying funny. maybe lying on a nerve
Have a read or ask your midwife about Symphysis Pubic dysfunction (SPD) I have it and the pain is quite bad sometimes. It usually catches me when I'm getting in or out of bed, getting dressed, at work after sitting on the floor with the children, getting in and out of the car and walking for longer periods of time. I had it during my last pregnancy too - it does go away afterwards.

Please don't assume that you have it tho, it's best to get it checked out.
It sounds like Sacroiliac Hip Disfunction, this is a version of SPD that effects the hips joints rather than the pubic bone. You should see your doctor, however, in the meantime make sure that you soften your bed - sleeping on a firm surface aggrivates it. You need to make sure that you don't carry anything too heavy and certainly nothing on one side of you which unbalances the body and makes it worse as well. Also soften your chair - always sit on a soft cushion.

Lore is correct that it will go away after the baby is born. I had it it with both pregnancy's to the extent that I could barely walk from about 6 months with my first. This was mainly because I had unknowingly made it worse by napping on the floor and having a really firm bed and spending 5 hours in a car! The second I got to 8 months without too much pain then went to a wedding and didn't take anything for sitting on in the church - I was reducued to shuffling and crawling for the last few weeks!

With physio and being careful, you wiil hopefully manage the rest of your pregnancy reasonably mobile.

Thanks for your answers. It is quite painful when I walk and by the end of the day i can barely walk at all. Im not keen on the fact that Im 6 months now and I'll probably have this pain till the end though I think i'll be crawling around at the end too! Im going to make an appointment with my midwife in the morning to get it checked out.
