A, dab of toothpaste - not the gel type - really does work, however you feel odd with a white spot on your lip.

good luck

Hi Burnouts,
I always dab tea tree oil on mine and sometimes I take a L Lysine tablet. This stops the cold sore in it's tracks and I normally get real big ones on my lip.
Buy some Tea Tree Oil and apply a couple of drops a few times a day. It's expensive, but the bottle will last a long time.
i was told to put perfume on it - it stings like hell but it does work
Blisteeze, now re-branded I think and called Blistex. 100% effective for me, a regular sufferer.
burn - u may find this helpful too

f you pop down to your local pharmacy as they may be able to recommend a vitamin to stop them re-occuring. I remember once I kept suffering with them on and off and a pharmacist gave me some vitamins and I've never had one since.
Im a regular sufferer and find that creams like blistex and zovirax stop working after a while. I always find the best thing to use is TCP. Its stings for a few and is a bit smelly, but it always clears the coldsore up in no time.
I have no idea how to get rid of them but stay away from chocolate and cheese these can cause cold sores to appear....

An old lady once told me to use a cold used teabag. I laughed about it but decided to try it anyway and guess what, it worked! I asked my GP about it and she said it was the tannin in it so maybe before spending a lot in the chemists you should give it a try. It's worked for me 3 times now. Horrible things coldsores.
