I suffer from allergies, mainly through the colder months and take Anthistamine tables from time to time.
I am beginning to take them more often now (Mostly everday) Are these OK to take long term?

It should tell you on the leaflet that came with them if you have to stop taking them after a certain amount of time. If you want to make certain, ask your doctor, they may even be able to recommend the best one for your allergies or give you a prescription of some sort.

Cheers Phychick but nothing on the leaflets about long term use I'm afraid.
That probably means it is ok, but go check with your doctor or a pharmacist to be on the safe side!
Actually, they may not be. Depending on the type of anthistamine, you could end up suffering from elevated blood pressure, low blood pressure and even addictions.

Antihistamines that contain phenylpropanolamine are not only dangerous, theyre addictive. There are also steroidal and non-steroidal antihistamines that can have an impact on your menstrual cycle as well as affecting the fine membrane tissue in your nasal passage.

Please, I encourage you to have a frank discussion with your GP. You may find she prescribes alternatives that provide you with greater relief and are safer as well.

I wish you every success

Thank you Bill
You can actually get your antihistamine as a jab if you suffer from your allergies long term (I do with cats and dogs and need them as everyone in my family has pets). The jab lasts about 3 months and as it's administered by your GP your medical history will be looked at and should therefore be safe long term as it's use will be monitored.
Question Author
Thank you so much for that info. I did not know that at all. I think I will see my GP about getting that jab as that sounds the best option and also like you say it is monitored.
Thanks again
