The link above was here. I've no idea what happened to it!
i had some cheese last night before bed and i had several horrible dreams, one of them was so scary that i couldnt get back to sleep and had to get up! all coincidence but it makes you wonder
Strong cheese gives me nightmares . That's a fact! Doesn't the fact that the 'explosion' of this myth is by the British cheese board not strike you as a bit obvious or do you work for them ?

Interesting the link kindly given by Quizmonster explains that cheese has sleep inducing qualities!! People only dream when they hit a deeper level of sleep REM. So indeed eating cheese can certainly make you hit this deeper sleep more effectively meaning that you are more likely to dream. This does not necessary mean that your dreams are going to be nightmares though. Apparently every night we dream several times, whether we remember our dreams or not depends on how deep a sleep we were in (there are much deeper levels of sleep even after REM). We would probably have had nightmares on the nights we ate cheese whether we ate it or not (hope that made sence). It just means that becuase we were in a deeper sleep we are more likely to remember our dreams when we wake up.
then, don't risk it guys - or the big cheese is GOING to get you!

;-)

i'd hate to think what you dream about cyanide

the myth i heard was that it's 'cheese and onion'.....?
Bimbim, if you Google cheese + nightmares, you'll find that there are loads of sites - other than the Cheese Board one - that also explode the myth. That's what I did and just picked the first one or thereabouts listed.
I thought the story was cheese gives you vivid dreams, not nightmares.
