Howdy folks. Mr P has been going on about how he is going to get round to having the snip at some point, and after 6 years of waiting for him to sort it out I have made an appointment to see my GP on Monday concerning the idea of me having the operation. To be honest I would rather do it than have to wait for him to get it sorted and having the clear samples etc. My question is: Is it better for him to have it done and have a day or so off work or for me to have the op? I have heard varying opinions regarding female recovery time.

Get him to have it done, I've spoken to people who've had this done before.....

Also the recovery time isn't supposed to be that long.

Are French letters really that bad?? Surely better than have some quack dig around tying knots in your wotsit tubes!!!

Well not only have I tried getting him to have it done..he has agreed. However he always says he hasn't got time to get to the doctor as he works very long hours!

Would I be able to make the appointment for him?

I am getting rather impatient considering we had a child 6 years ago and he first spoke about having it done just before I got pregnant...
It is a more serious op for a woman, and with a possible unwanted side effect - heavier and crampier periods.

Far more difficult to reverse than a vasectomy too.

But you should be back to normal within five days or so.

Hi Pippa, I know of a couple of men who have had the snip, there have been no problems, they recovered really quickly after some superficial bruising. I think the Op is much "bigger" for a woman, or serious if you will. See what your GP recommends, they know their stuff (usually!).

My last daughter was the result of the incompentence of the London Rubber Co, Wardy :o(

Thanks guys...I have read a bit about the two ops online, but thought I might ask on here for some personal experiences.

Ethel ~ not bothered at all about reversal. We have 5 children between us (I have given birth to 4) so have thought long and hard about not wanting any more children :o)

It's getting Mr P to make time for the appointment...
My friends hubby had it done 3 weeks ago.He did have a nasty infection arterwards but that has now cleared up.Apparently, hes got to ejaculate everyday for 30 days. Not sure why but im out with her tonight,i`ll get some info for you Pippa.
Without being base, which I am rather good at sometimes, am I the only person in the world that has never had a problem with rubber Johnnies??

Fair enough I do not sleep around, like many-a-strumpet on AB, but during my coming of age years I used to wear them without issue.

I hear so many people having "accidents" with them I often wonder what the hell they get up to in the bedroom (or the back seat of a Vauxhall Vectra).

Perhaps I have such perfectly formed glands, that Mr Durex used my shape as a template. But considering it resembles a withered vegetable, I doubt it very much.

Does "French Letter Accidents" warrant a thread in its own right?
Refuse sex until he makes an appointment. That 'll make him get a move on.

All I can say is that the end of it blew off, Wardy! the only time it has ever happened to either of us...but nonetheless one incident which resulted in Little Pippa MK4 ~ I took the morning after pill too, but was in the small % where it was obviously no use and having another baby was meant to be.

Ethel ~ to be honest I think I would give in before he did.

Ho hum.

Thanks hau kola ~ I will await the response!
i had it done as a day op, was up and about the next day but i would say took me a week to get over it properly
Hi Pip - apart from my husband having the snip some years back, we also know of a couple of men who've had it done, with no problems at all - well not that we know of!

I also know a few women who have been sterilised, some have had no problems at all, but a couple went on to have heavier, more painful periods. Having said that, it might have happened to them without being sterilised

Good luck.
A withered vegetable Wardy - you're a brave man owning up to that! ;o}
get him to have it done i say we are the ones that had the baby so its hes turn now .. my bf had it done last year he had no problem what so ever ..walked a bit funny for a few days that was it . now he is a jaffa i call him :)
Regarding womens version of the op - you *could* find problems with hormones getting out of sync. (a lot worse than normal!) and major headaches which kindof defeats the point.

Also, ask him - if you're in hospital for a week, who's going to look after the kids? He'll end up having to take a lot more time off.

As for blowing the end of - is that an achievement he boasts about down the pub? :-)

Yes Trev ~ he has often told the story during dinner parties after a few sherbets!

I have told him I am speaking to the GP on Monday and I got ''Oh, ok''.

Smudge ~ I have heard about the heavier periods thing too..not something I relish, of course! sleepy..I think it's the idea of being a 'jaffa' which makes men feel a bit off about having the snip? maybe Mr P is secretly upset about firing blanks..hmmmm.

Back to square one, eh? we both know it is easier for men to have the op, but once he read about the 'day case' op he was quite pleased that it would be possible for me to have it done without too much trouble :o(
Ok,just got in from a night out with the girls.Spoke to my mate she said what you already know about it being a much easier procedure for a man.Its done under local,a one day job.Right, the 30 day thing i was on about,he`s got to ejaculate 30 times over 12 weeks then send a sample to the hospital to make sure his tube is rid of the "old" sperm. Then hes gotta do something else but she cant remember what.To cut a long story short, its easier for hubby to get it done so get him down the Docs.
