My heart sometimes beats in an irregular way and I don't like the feeling. Is it normal to experience this? Please no stating the obvious by saying 'check with your GP'.

Okay, some people have an irregular beat all their lives like my dh its no big deal, gets worse when he is stressed or has more caffeine than usual, problem is that when he has noticed it, it takes a while for him to be able to ignore it again. If you are a teen or pre teen and/or this is new, then you really should talk to a doctor (sorry)especially if you are a heavy smoker and particularly if there is any pain or breathlessness associated with the feeling. if you are a menopausal lady then this too can be a cause of irregular heartbeat. If you really can't face a medic then how about a call to nhsdirect or visit their website? As I have already mentioned, cutting down on fags, caffeine and booze can help as well.
Sounds like palpitations to me. Read all abot them here:
