A question to all the sactimonious no smokers. How will you feel when you have to pay more taxes to compensate for the loss in revenue from smokers who are being forced to cut down.

and by quitting you save the nhs a fortune

I suspect patches are heavily taxed.
no one in england is being forced to cut down just not smoke in public places, you may well be surprised the amount of people who will be standing outside pubs and restaurants in all weather, p s . not a sanctimonious no smoker, this is my experience in scotland people do smoke less when out socially but the smell of body odour in some of the pubs is horendous,

Hi again sleepy , I suspect the revenue from smokers far outweighs the cost to the NHS. I think as I said its about 42 million pounds per day, A lot of money.
the national health service spends more on treating patients with obesity related diseases than smoking related diseases, is smoking bad ? yes and every smoker knows it is .

I stopped (again ) 3 months ago but it does concern me where the shortfall in revenue will be obtained. How about multivitamin pills at 20 for 12.
I suspect they are as well, you only have so many options, you can quit, continue to smoke or quit with patches/gum ect...

not smoking at all will be the cheapest option

Hi fine thanks, yes smoking is very very bad, I used to be one, but the daily income is gigantic. I am sure that during a smokers lifetime enough tax is paid to build 10% of a hospital.
This country basically is funded by drivers smokers and drinkers, but smokers seem to be the ones castigated.
I think all 3 get pretty bad press, junk food is also starting to get on the hit list
Question Author
What basically annoys me is that the Govt is taking the stance against smokers but is quite happy to keep taking the money. I can see a subtle change concerning global warming issues, Very soon there will be a big tax levied on barbecue charcoal etc.
sounds pretty typical doc, they will probably transfer the loss of revenue to junk food and confectionary,Alcohol (dressed up in the guise of concern for safe drinking) fuel and other taxes (rubbish tax) that are looming
Paying not to die from someone's smoke, worth every penny you selfish smokers.
Question Author
I would suggest that smokers will become very selfless. All confined together away from the public and paying enormous amounts of excise.
