Double beds for children.

Just seen on Eastenders that annoying little brat, Ben, having a double bed at his age.

I had a fairly large bedroom as a child but only ever had a single bed. Then at boarding school, I was confined to a single. University halls, had a single. And to add insult to injury, most, though not all, Offcers quarters had single beds.

Is this a sign of the times insofar as parents are now giving kids double beds.

As far as I can recall I was not given the option as a child. Does this mean my mother didn't love me?

actually, now you mention it, i never had an option either, so maybe my mother did'nt love me, i too shall draw a sad face, :(
I personally wouldn't want a double bed if I was a child of Ben's age. It is far more cosey in a single bed.

But my mummy did buy me a brand new Golf Gti when I when I turned 17. I seem to recall the insurance was something like 3k then!!!

Does material possessions buy love??

I now feel all sad I had a little boys bed when it seems everyone had doubles.

Also, she didn't let me have all the Star Wars figures I wanted, or should say needed.

My daughter has a double bed, and a double sofa bed.

Of course your mother loved you. It's just that double beds are cheap now. When you and I were young beds were still made from quality materials. Now they come from Ikea!!!!
I think that the real reason a lot of kids have double beds is that they double up as guest rooms - when you have guests you can sling junior on a blow up bed in your room and voila, a spare room for your friends or family. Much more practical than squashing auntie Jean and Uncle Billy into Bunk Beds- only problem is trying to get kiddy type bedding in a double size for when junior gets the bed, 'though I think that manufacturers are catching on (either that or a lot of grown ups like Bart Simpson!).

I have never been to an Ikea. I refuse to have furniturn names Sturnerbroken Fihhrgg, or Thegenstarlen Barlesen.

Bloody Swedes, or whatever country Mr Sven Grugenbegrgen-Hoffenstein comes from.

Argos??????
I was given a double bed at about 14. If either of my boys had a double bed I would guarantee they would end up ki[pping in together, I will probably wait until secondary school to get them doubles.

I had a hammock, but they wouldn't even sling it up anywhere coz they said they didn't want me falling out and getting even more head injuries!

Saying that, my Grandfather and Grandmother, although still very physically active, now have single beds set up like a twin hotel room with a bedside cabinet in the middle.

Why???? Bless 'em.

My Nan and Grandad have separate rooms!!!!!!!!!!
Mine too Ummmmm.... apparently Nans snoring has finally got on his tits.
Going to sound ancient now but here goes....
When i was a youngster it was the done thing to share beds- a double- with my 2 sisters when we were very young ( 3 of us within 3 years) then as we got older just me and my sister who is 13 months younger than i am..good times creeping out of bed and playing till dad shouted up to get back in bed, which we did double quick ! even though we did live in a big house and there was room for single beds the arrangement of the double was great to snuggle up and keep warm as there wasnt any such thing as central heating then : )
