Human males are noticibly more hairy than human females. Do other female mammals have less hair than their male counterparts or is this a human characteristic?

The male hormones, collectively, are called androgens. One specific male hormone is testosterone (I think that is the one responsible for body-hair growth). Pheromones are something completely different, I think that wasn't what you really meant to say!
Male lions have lovely long manes.
