Some heart conditions can case pain like this so may be best to get yourself checked out. Do you have any other chest pain?

Other more likely causes might be an ulcer, acid reflux/heartburn, pain originating from the chest wall such as muscle spasms and rib pain and anxiety attacks.

I used to get a really similar pain, on the top of my chest and under my breasts. I know exactly what your feeling...it's really quite scary.

Have a look at the question i asked...not sure if it'll help or not.

Hope you feel better soon lovely xxxxxxxxxx

unfortunately i think the final conclusion to my problem was cucumber...:o(
the good news is that it doesn't sound like a heart attack - I know you didn't mention this but people always worry about pains on the left side of their chest... in fact you apparently feel those symptoms in the middle of your chest. Hard to say what it is, though, could be indigestion or a pulled muscle, or even a rib that's been slightly put out (in which case an osteopath or chiropractor might be able to help).
I wonder if you have the same prob as me. I am busty, and if I don't wear a good bra, or if I slouch on the sofa or something, I get what is like cramp inbetween my ribs. If I stretch upwards and sideways to lengthen the muscle then it will go away. I have no idea what it is - maybe strain on my muscles from being busty? It does hurt, but soon goes away so I have never bothered to see the doc. It definitely feels muscular rather than deep inside.
I've had similar pains over the years and feel its only a "stitch" - like you get in your side after running. Breathe through it in short breaths and it goes away. I've never had it investigated
i have this.. and alot of women i kno do too. It is something to do with the lining that covers the lung, and is harmless.. tends to be more in smokers.
I have to take really little breaths and wait for it to go away as normal breaths kill!! x
