Am just wondering (as you do) what is it like to be knocked out, in a fight or by getting a mega thump from something or someone. Has anyone been knocked out (I don't mean under anaesthetic) And why exactly does a blow knock you out and what happens physically, ie what is the physiological reason for losing consciousness?

I have fainted before which I think is similar. It just felt like a gap (very similar to anaesthetic). Time just disappeared, and everything went black as if I was asleep, but completely blank. I think a blow knocks you out as your body realises something big has happened and needs the blood to flow to the major organs (so you need to lie down). I'm no doc though!
I once ran into a lamppost (so i'm told) i woke up on my sofa with a big bump on my head and couldn't remember anything that had happened that day, still can't.
I was almost trampled to death in a nightclub when I was knocked over and banged my head on the floor which knocked me out briefly. I came-to just in time to see a stilleto heel heading for my eye!! luckily i reacted wuick enough to grab the girls ankle and give it a good hard twist!!!! was just like a gap but afterwards I was a bit lightheaded and couldn't stop laughing!!
I think it is a result of your brain hitting the inside of your skull. I'm sure someone will provide a more detailed answer.
hmmm, meant quick not wuick!!!!

Did I hear my name??
Oh dear, yes. Sorry, it normally only escapes from my lips in my most intimate moments.
i've been knocked out - but can't actually tell you what it was like as i lost the memory of the incidents immediately prior to the attack and immediately after i woke up - my memory started working while i was wandering around being helped by friends and abulance men.
not a pleasant sensation the memory loss and i remember being very disorientated when i start to remember things again - with difficulty to recall important and basic information, which was a but worrying (info like what i had been doing that day, or where i'd been etc).

I used to box for the Regiment, long time ago now, but the first time I faced a Southpaw, (they should be banned, lol), I got knocked out on my feet, not nice, head swims, haze in front of the eyes, and everything going in circles round you and you can't focus.
I knocked myself out once - messing about on the stairs with my sister when I was about 14 and jumped over the bannister and hit my head on a wooded beam!!

I don't remember actually being knocked out - just waking up in a heap on the floor a few seconds later!!

A xXx
I have been knocked out on a couple of occasions and didn't remember anything until a while after. I also don't remember what happened just before the accidents. I was told by a doctor that anyone who has suffered a concussion serious enough to cause unconsciousness won't remember anything about the actual impact.
I was only 7 and I was playing with my sisters. we heard my dad yelling for us...so we started to run back to him. he told us to get in the truck and I was the last one and he hit me in my chest out of anger; then he shut the door. I can remember my sisters crying and my chest hurting really bad. I try to cry but it only hurt that much more. then I felt very tired... when I woke up I was cold and wet. my dad had open the door and I fell out onto the ground. he throw water on me to wake me. then tried pressing on my chest. they said I was out off it for 20 minutes.
