Has anyone got a sensible foolproof method for nail biting? Genuine helpful advice wanted. Have tried all the stuff you buy, no good at all. Even tried being hypnotised, did not work. Thanks in anticipation

Put on some pretty nailpolish, a color that you like. You won't feel like biting afterwards in case you wreck the polish.

Another option is to chew gum, it stops the urge to chew on your nails.

...years and years ago (when I was 15) when I used to bite my nails the way I stoped was to just bite on my thumb nails, I let the others grow, manacured them and had nail varnish on every day ...they looked fab and my thumb nails were horrid..but still I could not stop my habbit...so I grew one thumb nail and eventually weaned myself off chewing the last one as it just looked awful compared to the rest of my lovely nails which were eventually all about 1- 1.5 inches long, then by the age of 18 I was in the real world where I had to work for a living , not to mention housework, since then my nails just break and are quite short...but I never went back to chewing.... ( though I do hack at my toenails!!!!...can't believe I just admited to that)...
occupy your self with something else and don't think about it.
I'm a lifelong nail biter. I once stopped biting for a few months but hated having to cut them.
I think the most important thing is to actually want to stop. Not just because someone tells you to or you think the nails look bad, you have to genuinely want to give up.

The only reason I have for giving up nailbiting is to make opening cellophane packaging easier.
Get acrylic nails....you wont bite them and it will give your own nails the chance to grow....fabulous!!
this ones extreme but does work lol

Have a baby!! regardless of how many times you scrub your hands after changing a nappy (they new-born poos are best) there is no way you will put your fingers near you mouth to bite your nails.

In addition to red's answer ...

I always stopped biting when I had to do any work on a live sewer ... so I think you need to take the ''poo route''.
I have bitten my nails for years but then got a job in an estate agents where I had to type peoples details into the pv. I felt so embarrased at how my nails looked - I bit all the skin round the edges too (YUK I know!).

I used a blear nail hardener to help get them stronger and then a subtle silvery polish. When I went to bite them they looked a bit better so I left them alone.

I now have nice nails and dont want ot bite them anymore - this has only taken me till I am 42!! Also geting married helped as I didnt want gross hands then. Good luck!!
As you can see from above - its harder to type properly with long nails!!
i would go with some gel nails. - they look immediately good, are very strong and your own nails will grow underneath. I had acrylics before, and bit them off, but the gels are impossible to bite off. one of mine fell off the other day, and the nail underneath is so nice i didnt vother having another extension on

Brilliant, thanks to all, don`t think I will have a baby though. The gel nails sound like a good idea. Will really try now I have actually admitted it to everyone. Thanks again
