Why should he get away with it?

Hi all. Not sure where to put this, and fairly sure I know the answer but thought i'd give it a go anyway.

To cut a very long story short, one of my best friends has been completely 'done over' by a fraudster. This man essentially met her, within two months convinced her that he was going to marry her, got 500 from her and then fled, calling her awful racist names in the meantime. He has lied about everything from his job, his mother dying and his daughter dying. All of which are untrue.

We all saw through him straight away, but as is often the case, she wanted to hear the lies more than she wanted to see him for what he was.

500 doesn't sound like a lot, but she didn't have it to give in the first place. I've told her that the only way that she's going to see that money is by writing to 'take a break'!!! or something similar.

However I've just been sitting here wondering why he should get away with such behaviour, especially as I don't doubt it's the first time, nor the last.

Whilst my instinct is that she should put it down to experience and not be so stupid again, is there any legal stance that she has? Is it even worth reporting the racism?

I feel this question is futile, but I'm angry that there seems to be no come back.

Thanks EB x

He needs a smack in the earhole,if you know where he lives,go round there and give him a slap, can't see the point in reporting it to the police, they are as good as a chocolate teapot.
do you know this man, or has he come in the sun and vanished at night sort of thing?

Exactly that sort of thing coco. I know a little about him, we managed to track down his parents (mum being very much alive and well - he's 33 btw). But we didn't tell her what he'd said. Didn't think it was fair on her, as they seem like decent people.

raysparx, I want to, believe me. But would bring me down to his level. I just have to hope that the pondlife will get his one day.
Take a break would be a good idea, She could get her 500 back in the form of their story fee, and it would also warn other women not to be taken in my this W****r. That is if she doesn't mind baring (excuse my spelling if thats wrong) to the nation.

I hope it works out for her.
I think if she reported a racist verbal assualt to the police, this day and age they will come running and when they do explain the swindle that led up to it and see what action they take.

If she just reports the swindle they wont want to know.

I hope she has success.
Doesn't this fall under "obtaining money by deception". A criminal offence i think.
Would you rather hear about your son face to face, or have your neighbours telling you they`d read about him in a magazine. If they are decent people I would approach them. If it was my son believe me I`d get him sorted.
EB sorry to hear about your friend, I can't give you much adivce other than to say, I watched a programme called 9/11 Liars last night. A situtation as bad as 9/11 and people lied about their loved ones being lost in the Twin Towers just to gain insurance money. These people are nasty and have no heart. They are fraudsters, EB this guy will get caught I hope. xx
Contact the Police, it will at least give him a scare (about the money and remarks) oh and there is an agency who sell your story for you , worth a look you can find them on tyhe net
Hi there, i have been through something like this. I broke up with my bf of 3yrs in January and when we first met he was about to go to court so i bailed him out with a 7500 loan and he paid me back monthly- untill in jan he moved away and i haven't heard from him since so i'm now stuck paying off about 6000 of his debt-plus an extra 2000 on top of that as he got hold of my credit card and maxed it out-nice huh?
I have looked into all of the options for months and months and the only thing that people like me and your friend can do-i'm sorry to say- is put it down to experience and don't be so easy with lending out money ever again. There is no proof any of this happened so there is nothing she can do legally,( a few people suggested i go to a small claims court) but again she would need a lot of proof. Believe me i went through so much anger like you-but you kinda have to accept it and let it go. As much as that SUCKS!!! My ex-bf lied to me about his ex-gf dying, his family abandoning him etc and had all my family and friends going for years. Luckily i haven't seen or heard from him since and i am dealing with it, but like i said its easier to accept it,deal with it and move on, than it is to fight something you don't have any proof over. Why should they get away with it tho? I agree!!! Because some people don't have a conscience!!!
