If a guy can be with a girl just for one thing, then, likewise, would a guy ever be with a girl , pursue her constantly for a year, just to be her" first"? Or would he definitely be out of there before a year is up if he still hasn't gotten anywhere?! What I'm trying to say is, is the pleasure gotten from the challenge of trying to be the girl's "first" the same as getting what they want (sex) all the time?

Perhaps he could be doing both?

On one hand chasing to be the cherry popper, but in the mean time feasting on other fruits of delight, until the cherry is ripe.
Sorry I may have misunderstood your Q.

It is possible for a gentleman to abstain for a year to be with the one he loves if she doesn't feel ready and he respects that. There are of course others who would happily follow the thoughts and actions in my first post above.

I think for many (including women) often the challenge is in the chase, and once that is over they may lose interest - even with regular sex with the same partner. It is all interdependent.
Firstly there is far more involved in sex for a women than there is for a man! Not all the time, granted but women need an emotional connection to have sex as well as the other stuff... all men need is friction! But.. if the man pursuing the woman, wanting to be her first then it is more than likely possible that he would do so if he was at the same time getting it elsewhere! Also I take it she isn't going to be his first... he has had women before?! If thats the case then more than likely he will pursue her for as long as needs be!
octavius has put it perfectly im afraid. Poetry at its best octavius!

Haha!have had my sneaking suspicions that, as he was having other fruit too, it would just be the challenge that was keeping him interested!!what a sly F***er!! A nasty nasty boy indeed!and imagine, a YEAR of chasing just for that!! well good enough for him that it didnt pay off in the end!!She's much better off without him!
Firstly, I do not believe that there is always a need for emotional connection for a woman to have sex. Whilst I concede that most women may want and prefer this in order to enjoy it in a sensual way, it is not a pre-requisite for the physical act. Secondly, some (dare I say many?) women often just look for the physical attributes, and many (oops I did it again) women (including those of the oldest profession) actually prefer not to have any emotional contact in certain encounters.

Now back to the men, as per the Q. It is entirely possible for a man who has experienced sex to abstain from doing so for a period of time if they believe that they have found someone they respect, love and wish to be with, whether or not the partner has experienced it. It just depends on the man, the partner and the relationship.
My first real boyfriend, when i was 16, we were together 9 months, i didn't put out. he stayed with me, then we split because i found out he had been cheating on me. so i think yes to your question, a guy can stay with you just to pop your cherry. i was just lucky. haha.
