does anyone know of anything that helps prevent sun allergy. Everytime I look at the sun i come out in a rash that looks like tiny blisters all over my face, neck, chest and shoulders! It goes after about a week, but nothing seems to stop it and it's making my life a misery. It's impossible to fully avoid the sun and it occurs even after 5 mins of exposure. Thanks!

cheers Elvis! haha
Sorry, couldn`t resist it,.......... you should be able to get something over the counter at the chemists though.

dot ,you sure yours was the sun and not alcohol ;o)
Elvis i think it was the sun, i got well bladdered in cancun and Cuba and never came out in a rash, though it could have been the cranberry juice in the Rivers of the island cocktails.

I've tried everything! I might resort to removing my head at the moment as a preventative measure!
yeah right!!
bodders using an anti histimine (?) is always a good idea and keep a sun block on too,
This is probably PLE ..Polymorphic Light Eruption
http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/diseases/facts/ligh teruption.htm
Lots of people suffer with it ..I do and have done for years.
Try Aloe Vera gel which soothes and cools .
Type PLE into the search category....lots of posts about it lately.

Cheers Dot! Yeah, I've tried every anti-histamine on the market, even one the dr prescribed and no luck. It comes up even with sun block on unfortunately. My face is in a right state!

Thanks Shaney! I've just been reading the posts about it including yours! That's exactly what it is! Looks like I'm just gonna have to put up with it. It's almost impossible to avoi the sun altogether though. Which sun block do you use which works best?

Are there any homeopathic remedies for this?

yep shaneystar that's what happened to me in Antigua and i used an Aloh Vera aftersun gel and the Piriton, it took nearly two days to go completely and I hadn't been in the sun that much except when i was in the sea. i thought at first it was a seaweed allergy.
Hi bodders
I use Nivea factor 50.. if I am going to be in the sun for any length of time. To be honest there isn't much you can do about and believe me I have tried them all !
I have had this since I was in my twenties and am now fast approaching 60.I have had various treatments over the years...biopsies,various creams ,potions and lotions and was on tetracycline for a long time for it.
You can go on the desensitising thing but I think it has to repeated every year.
At the moment I am like you ..my arms look as if someone has beaten me up !
All I can say is ..try and stay out of the direct sunlight ..wear a 50+ factor sunblock....take cool showers and give the Aloe vera gel a try. You can get it at any health shop ...Holland and Barrett for example.Keep it in the fridge so it's nice and cold when you put it on.Completely natural and very soothing. Not sticky or greasy.
Good luck and hopefully things will cool down soon and it will clear up

Sorry about two part posts ..I think ABed needs to put a shilling in the meter.!
By the way...I even get this in the winter on my face if the sun is very bright .Not a very nice thing to have and I do sympathize .
I am convinced it is tied up with hormones as it only started with me when I was on the pill. I never had a sign of it during pregnancy but going through the menopause it was horrendous.I looked as if I had the measles and you have to cover it up with make up.As I have got older I can cope with it .
If you get it a lot do go and see your GP though .
Stay indoors
Yes .....we really need facetious remarks like yours LittleBishop.
