Not sure what causes them, but I treated one on my finger with Bazuka gel. You can get this over the counter from the chemist. All you do is put the gel on overnight, and file the wart as it dries. I think I got rid of mine after about a week of this.
Warts are caused by a virus. If they are genital then its really virulent and you have to go to doctor. Otherwise there are treatments you can use. There is loads of advice online, weirdest I saw was duct tape! Apparently its a serious one and quite a bit of research has been done. The theory is that the skin recognises the foreign body and sends white blood cells to the area which whilst there, attack the wart virus; its reckoned to be more effective than freezing it off as a doctor might. Otherwise verruca cream can be used or there is the old wives tail about rubbing it with steak and then burying the steak in the garden!! Remember to wash your hands well whatever you do as it can spread.

some people use vinegar, some swear by the insides of a ripe banana skin..sometimes nothing works at all!!..if not painful they will probably go on there own?
( ask the podiatrist to have a shufty when you go with your daughter!.. thats if they are on yuour foot!!)
Tea Tree oil fights viral (and fungal) infections. I had a wart just under my chin ... looked like Winnie The Witch, not pretty. After religiously putting tea tree on with a cotton bud every single night for 9 weeks ... be patient ... it literally dried up and fell off. That was over a year ago and it's not come back.
