i use a spray bottles and wet the curtains, leave the window open and if there is any breeze it cool the air I use a sarong as a sheet, and in malaysia we used to damp them down to make it a bit cooler (never found it hot enough here though)
I sleep without any covers on when its really hot, window open. Can you get one of those fans that stand up? Then you could aim the air flow at your bed? Not sure really what you can do as you have tried most things. How about a natural remedy to help you sleep. Not into all the herbalstuff myself so couldn't recommend anything in particular.

Sounds really stupid, but I just cant sleep without any covers, I never feel comfortable unless I have something over me.

I have a fan, but its a static one with a head that dosent move, and when I do put it on I get very cold spots, which in turn give me cramp! I think I have one in the office though somehwere, so ill try and pinch that.

Im also not really into the herbal stuff myself, and dont think its justified getting a prescription just yet ;)

I think its a no hoper to be honest and ill just have to put up with the heat!! oh well!

Get ******!
I'll try again....get p155ed!

I have a stand up fan than moves (the head bit moves, not like it walks around the room) and I got that from B&Q last year, it was only 15.

I feel the same as you though Steve and Can't sleep unless I have something over me, and a bedsheet is too thin! I have to wrap myself right up in it!

LOL now however appealing that really does sound, I dont think my patients will wanna smell my hangover dog breath!
Also, don't know about where you live but if I keep our bedroom door shut there is obviously no air circulating so I wedge all of the upstairs doors open and windows so that fresh cool air is flowing through upstairs during the night.
I can't open my windows, too near a busy road. Having the same trouble, so have given up trying to sleep and making do with a good read a cup of tea and luckily getting so tired have crashed out for 3/4 hours. Not so good if you have a responsible job to hold down which you obviously have doc-steve. I take heart in that Mrs Thatcher got by on three hours sleep a night and she's still here! Good Luck.
I too just can't sleep with no covers or just a sheet. Don't know why. Fortunately I live in a cottage with thick walls and small windows - they knew what they were doing 200 years ago. The rooms stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
doc-steve,i have a floor standing fan that i have on all night if i'm hot,if you need something over you at night, get your partner on top of you and turn the fan on,,,kill 2 birds with one stone???????????????
Lie on the very edge of the bed, you will soon drop off
I use a lot of herbal remedies for various things. Let me know if you want any names.
I've the same problem and really suffer from hot feet in this weather. A while back my missus found this excellent fizzing foaming stuff from Virgin V which works really well and last year we bought a portable air-con unit from B & Q - a bit pricey but well worth it in my view.

last year we bought a portable A/C [ air conditioner] from B&Q for the bedroom and slept like a baby whilst others sweated it out, we were so impressed this year we have bought one for downstairs too. Even the dog taps the side of the a/c when he wants it on !!!

they do cost around 190 this year, but you could always try it for 1 night then take it back if you didnt like it.

I have the same problem myself and since I suffer from eczema, it's even more unbearable which is why I've decided I'm going to buy a portable a/c asap!!

Ummm, what temperatures are we talking about here (for those of us not in the UK)

On the subject of fans, you should not really need a swivel head fan, if you point it anywhere in the room but directly at the bed it should give a good enough circulation around the whole room to keep it reasonably comfortable.

If you get a stand up fan, position near an open window if you can, to get the cool air in. I find that placing a cold, damp flannel on my feet cools me down really well. In the day, try closing your curtains to keep out the sun.
Would suggest contacting www.theduvetstore.co.uk who have every possible solution you can imagine, including a lot of high tec bedding which really helps.
