Is it dangerous to keep taking the pill for several months without a break? I know a few girls who do this and they seem ok but surely it can't be good for them to keep nature at bay for so long!

The longest I've taken the pill without a break was 3 months and I thought that was bad but my friends go even longer than that!

i asked this question to my specialist, as i have polysistic ovaries which 1 of my symptoms are i dont get a period.

i take the mini pill, which doesnt give me the break, when i questioned her bout this she said it was ok, maybe just to have 1 break a year would be enough!

im a bloke and even i know that your supposed to take the pill for ever with a break of 2-3 days a month .and i would advise you to speak to your nurse at the local surgery to gain extra education, or ask yor son to pick up a leaflet next time hes in there as he might have a brother soon

doctor dilf or what

If you are on about the combined pill then all people are different someone asked this before and I said try not to take packs in a row as I know I was very ill and had the worst period ever. But other people said they have done it and are fine. So that day I was going to docs anyway so I said I'd ask and she said there is no problem with taking up to 3 packs in a row but you may get a worse period at the end. So she advised two is best if you really dont want the break. I've worked it out so I'm never on at weekend so I rarely miss breaks for special occasions now.

i would suggest you spoke to your doctor or family planning too. if you where really worried

but as i have never had a period, on the pill i was on, i was worried, but some pills cause you to not have a period.

obviously you take the combined pill so your meant to have a 7 day break. but you can keep taking it, for example if you where going on holiday and such things, answer to your question its not dangerous,

but its not serious if you go a couple of months without a period.

Dilf, not sure where you got your information from but it is wrong. If you want to take a break (and it isn't necesary), it is a seven day break after 21 days of taking it.

A 2-3 day gap will interfere with the working of the pill, and doctors will tell you that it is completely safe to keep taking a number of packets in a row without a break. Some even recommend it for some medical complaints

I read an article on this recently ~ featuring Dr Hillary Jones. He stated that the only reason a break was suggested was to give you peace of mind..as a lot of women prefer to have a 'period' break.

He went on to say that there was no medical grounds for having the break, and that there was no evidence to show it was harmful.

Sorry ~ meant to say no medical evidence to show it was harmful not to have a break!
Yep, the bleeding you have on the 7 day break isn't a period (ie, not a build up of the tissue in the womb) it's actually a withdrawl bleeding. The 7 day break is there mainly for pyschological reasons, to maintain some kind of regularity. Also it's an indicator as to whether you are pregnant or not. I have a break every 2nd month/packet and haven't had any problems. The only thing I've noticed is that my period pain seems a little more but nothing horrific.
Why do people not have the break. Yer occasionally there is special occasion. wedding, date, holiday etc. where you dont want to be on. but cant see any point otherwise.
I sometomes miss a break because I find having my period a right pain (not just physically) sometimes it's just easier not to bother. Side effect for me is that when I next have a break it lasts longer-so maybe there's no real advantage!
Thats where I'm lucky Periods have never really bothered me. Sometimes I even forget I'm on. Other people sometimes dont forget I'm on though :-) lol
I very rarely take a break from mine, unless i'm going on holiday or something - I think it's natural to have periods and the only reasons i take the pill are contraception and becuase it's helped ease my periods (they used to last 2 weeks and be really heavy). At least this way I know exactly when it's coming and when it'll be gone. I don't like the idea of not having a period every month. As much as it's not pleasant and it's a hassle I think women are supposed to have a period so why stop it!
apart from as has been outlined above it isn't a proper period and if we cared about nature taking its course and women having periods because they are supposed to we wouldn't pump our bodies full of extra hormones in the first place!
