Hi,

My sisters partner has a huge Nevi / birth mark on his back (top of this bum to his shoulders) its hairy and dark brown in colour. He also has lots (100%) little brown moles/birth marks on his body, legs, arms, and one on his head (under his hair).

I am just wondering, that if they have kids, are the children likely to have these birth marks / moles?

Our youngest daughter was born with a birthmark/nevus the size of an old penny, on the top of her arm. She is now in her 30's & although it's still there, it has faded so much so, that you don't actually notice it.

She now has two children & neither of them have any birthmarks. So I wouldn't worry about it too much foxy.

Yes. That type of thing is hereditary. The way you described your sisters partner is a tad scary. Are the birthmarks really that bad?
Neither my husband nor I have a birthmark/nevus, but our daughter was born with one. Neither of her two children have them - so not all children are born with them even if their parents were.

The more birthmarks there are on the parents body then the more likely the child will be similiar. If it is a dominant gene, then the liklihood increases.

i have a birthmark of a chicken on the inside of my left leg. my mom said when she was pregnant with me, on her way to the clinic each week, she would see whole barbecue chickens hanging in the window. it's an old wife's tale that when a pregnant woman has a desire to eat something and they don't eat it, the baby gets a birthmark. i know this would sound silly to you guys, but i do believe this.

during my college, i did a research on this. i interviewed many, many people and they all said the the same thing about the old wife's tale and birth marks.

That's interesting dancealot - I'll look that up on Goggle later - ta!

lia - that's amazing. My older brother has a red birth mark of a dog (looks like a fox terrier) on the inside of his arm! My dear old Mum's reason for it, was that she was terrified by a dog which chased after her whilst pregnant with him!

This really did happen to her, but of course the rest is just another 'old wives tale'.

Or is it an 'old wives tale'? - spooky!
i love spookey, always interesting and leaves one wondering.
