My doctor pretty much told me I don't have asthma and the tightness in my chest over the past 7 years is from something else. She said I could be anemic..anyone out there anemic? If so, what are your symtoms?

i'm anemic...ive never heard of it being linked to asthma. i'm tired most of the time, can get faint easily, am quite pale and get vey run down very easily, especially time of the month time. (If your a man that last bit would be of no use of interest to you lol!)

Nannon- Im a 24yr old woman lol

I have had tightness in my chest since I was 16 (doc said it was asthma but never did a test). I feel hungry for air. I can breath just fine, but the breath isn't safisfying. I've never gone to the hospital for it,..its just uncomfortable. But then I started to get palpitations so I went to the doctors after ABers told me to. Now I know it's not asthma, and the doc thinks I could be anemic. So you don't have a hard time breathing ever? Or palpitations?

Hi dancealot, your symptoms sound also like panic attacks, and maybe worth looking up the info on them...
Hiya, could it be a bit of anxiety, I have asthma but it is well under control, I have also suffered with anxiety at times and sometimes feel breathless and dizzy, but it feels completely different to an asthma breathless episode. anyway, just a thought.

Im not nervous or anxious at all. Infact Im pretty calm. lol ;) Thanks though!
I meant 'hope'!
Hi Dance,

Heart palpitations and shortness of breath can be linked to anaemia, so it is worth having a blood test to check it out.

In the interim, it probably wouldnt do you any harm to invest in some dietary supplements, such as folic acid and iron etc :)
Could be hyperventilation syndrome which is often misdiagnosed as asthma. The hunger for air you describe is something people who hyperventilate often refer to. Ask to be referred to a respiratory outpatient physio, who can assess your symptoms using a Nijmegen questionnaire, and teach relaxed breathing techniques.

Hey Dancealot, Ya it doesnt sound like your anemic to me.. I am and I have been for years.. I have to at times take 100mg's of Iron and watch what food Im eating and drink LOTS of water just to keep in control.. Never did my breath feel different.. symtoms are things like, being tired, dizzy, If your a white person then you have trouble keeping color in your skin like a tan.. you may be whiter than normal.. If you pull down the skin under your eyes and the flesh under your eye is white and not red then thats a sign of anemia.. I would see another Dr for sure...!!!! You only have one chance at life.. dont waste!

Good luck dancealot and make sure you up date us and let us know how your doing.
