If someone cuts themself and ends up having to go to hospital because they cut too deeply, will they be refered to talk to someone about depression etc after going to the GP to get the stitches out? Is it standard practise?

If they've been deliberately cutting, then I think the doctor probably has a duty of care to refer to a psychiatrist.

If they've cut too deeply, it will probably be considered as attempted suicide, and the norm is a follow up psychiatric evaluation, usually before they're sent home x

if the cut needs to be stitched at hospital, and if they suspect a problem, they will either call psych and get advice or they'll send the person home, maybe with a letter....

The 'cut' person, you don't say how old? and whether they need/have had psychiatric help, the doc should ask if the person needs to talk to someone, unless it becomes out of that persons hands and they get held under the mental health act for their own protection.

Hummm, i'm answering the question as it reads to me, like a self harmer?

Unfortunately it is not always standard practice. Sometimes the person would have to ask for the referal or go to their GP to get it.
