This may sound like a stupid question but what exactly do the terms 'low-impact' and 'high-impact' workout mean?

low impact means you are not bouncing around a lot, putting strain on your joints. You tend to keep one foot on the floor more, if you know what I mean.
A high impact workout would be something like step aerobics, where you're impacting the floor a lot.
A low impact workout could be something like swimming, since there's little impact actually ocurring.
