I've tried 2 now and all they want to do is sell me stuff. I've deleted them both.

All I want is something with a comprehensive list of food etc that can keep track of calories. I don't want a membership, I don't want food, I don't want a plan, I don't want a body analysis, I don't want classes etc etc

I had a great one a few years ago but I'm burgered if I can remember what it was, thanks

It doesn't keep track of calories but it tells you the amount of calories in food

Try the Nutracheck app

Question Author

it says "free trial" which means they'll want dosh at some point.

£30 a year for Nutracheck.

I believe this one is free

https://www.myfitnesspal.com/

I googled 'free calorie counter app for android' - I think you said you have an android phone - and it came up with several.  Have a look.

Or you could do it the hard way.  Look up everything you eat and drink in the free website I linked to and keep a record yourself. I bet within three weeks you will already have collected a database of most things.

15:48 I tried that it wanted payment details.

15:50 I did that but they all wanted payemnt details. They start you with a free trial.

I wouldn't actually mind paying but I want it to leave me alone instead of bombarding me with all the ins and outs of a cat's chuff. None of them seem to do that. Lose it did look promising but that wasn't right either.

Well, people are always telling me to drink less,

so have you tried eating less??

No counters needed.....

Seriously though,

It can be an uphil struggle at times to keep a record of what one is consumming.

Our dive doctor recommends a really easy to follow regime that doesn't include counting calories or depriving yourself unnecessarily.  Fruit until 12 every day and then lunch and dinner all carbs one day, lunch and dinner all protein the next.  No cheese or butter.  You can eat as much as you like as long as you stick to the carbs/protein rule.  T-bone steaks, vegetable curries - all delicious normal food.

Question Author

ok thanks all, I seem to have got Lose it to work as I want it to.

There is a free version of myfitnesspal with ads, I created an account and was able to log my daily food.  There is a tiny banner at the bottom that says 'go ad free, go premium' but it is easy to ignore.

When it asked for my credit card details I just hit the back button and the app opened properly.  No credit card details given.

Never heard that regime Naomi - have you tried it?

Not me, smow, but I know a few people who lost loads of weight that way - and quickly.

It's a carb cycling diet, Smow, with added fruit

Question Author

there's nothing magic about any diet there has ever been. They are just inventive ways of reducing calorie intake.

All carbs one day ?

Your poor blood sugar levels, getting hit like that.

It just means you can't have steak with chips, OG, or meat curry with rice or meat with pasta.

So steak with salad, ratatouille, or whatever vegetables you fancy, vegetable curry with the usual rice, or pasta with tomato and vegetable sauce.  Vegetables can be eaten freely.

I'm not trying to convince anyone.  It's pain-free and it works, that's all.

I use the free FatSecret app - it’s super simple, has a UK food database, and just tracks calories. No memberships, no meal plans, no classes. If you want another option, the free version of MyFitnessPal works pretty well too.
