My BP has shot up from an acceptable level to over 200 and my ankles have swelled, I rang after taking a home reading which shocked me, he’s ringing me in a week to see how I am , he asked has anything worried and upset me to cause such an increase, he said I may have a murmur so a heart scan could be on the cards, he’ll decide after he rings next week , I’ve been given 10 mg of Lisinopril to get it down

He’s ringing me in a week Sqad , thank you
Let's hope tablets bring bp down and in the meantime, relax, put your feet up and don't do too much. Try not to worry x

I know bobbie.........it doesn't sound a big deal.
Well that's a bit of a b out of the blue. Hope all's well.
Take it easy,Bobbi - keep out of the intense heat. Have you previously been troubled with high blood pressure?
Did he ask you if you had ever taken drugs or been unfaithful ?

Gness my ankles were swollen slightly so I decided to do a home reading thinking it probably this heat , I got a hell of a shock seeing 200 + , I did it twice on one arm then once on the other one, was then I rang our practice , , he rang me back and asked me to come straight down
I don't suppose the heat will be helping.

I know that it is easy to say but don't worry - you need to relax. As my long-suffering doctor told me - it is only a snapshot of your blood pressure at one particular time.

Listen to Doc Sqad x

No Haz, a few years ago when I was 60 I got a reading of 140 so I was put on them for around 6 months, I’m 76 in November and haven’t taken any meds at all
You’ve been sunbathing. That might not have done you a lot of good. Swollen ankles and heat often go together.

I haven’t lain in it Naomi only tidied the garden then came in as it was too hot
Question Author
I always listen to him Woof , he talks sense
naomi@1744 is quite correct.
It's the heat......NOTHING to do with heart failure.
Question Author
I am more worried about such high BP Sqad , I’ve only been out in in a very short time
Don't know if this will help - but a couple of years ago whilst helping to cater for and organise a biggish historical talk followed by supper, I took a header into an iron stanchion protruding from a wall. (Someone had turned a rug around and I caught my foot in thr frayed edge loop.)
I was dazed and had a huge egg on my head so was carted off to A&E despite my protestations where they took my blood pressure and it was well over 240. Told me to see my doctor. I've never had any problem with BP so i rested up and just mentioned it to the nurse a couple of days later. She checked and it was high normal, which is usual for me in the middle of the day. So we left it at that.

Last week I took it after a relaxed, cool evening and it was 116/64!

So try not to worry and take it easy and keep out of the heat if poss..
This thread reminded me of one you posted a couple of days ago about sunbathing in your garden. Hence my response.
Worry about you BP when you need to.............
Before next week, buuy a BP machine from Boots or Amazon and take it three times a day at the same time each day until you see the Dr again.
Bobbi, if you haven't already been asked to, keep a BP diary for a week. Take your BP twice a day (make sure your legs are uncrossed and don't speak whilst doing it). Make a note of how you were feeling at the time and when you had taken your medication.
Sorry Sqad, crossed posts.
