Massive, painful lump immediately behind my right ear, towards the top. It feels as if the bone has swollen - but I think that is impossible.
My wife tells me it's not the massive, more pea size and it is painful only when I touch it or put pressure on it.
Any ideas? Idle curiosity more than worry - can bones swell?

Thanks, bednobs :) Can't remember the last time I had a quiche.
Not enough information.
Is it the size of a pea or is it "massive" as you describe?
How long has it been there?
Does it get bigger when you eat?
Is it all behind the ear or is some of the swelling in front of the ear?
Have you had long term discharge from your right ear?
Have you had any infection on your scalp?

Yes.......bones can swell.
Question Author
In all honesty, Sqad, it is about the size of a pea.
No swelling in front of the ear, no discharge, nothing on scalp. It doesn't get bigger when I eat; it isn't hot; it is very hard and immobile as if the bone is swollen.
Thanks barrie.

No big deal.

Almost certainly an innocent cyst or lymph node, most likely the former. Monitor the situation for the next few months.

Okey dokey, thanks, Sqad
