Over 50S Bowel Screening Scotland

Hi there
I was 50 on 2nd January I had a nice day with my parents and my sister and brother in law at my house and then we went out for a meal at night. All did Lateral Flow Tests.
This week I received a bowel screening test kit from NHS Scotland as I have turned 50. I have followed the instructions and sent it off today. Anyone have any experience of this. Good or bad?
Since November I have been having what I considered to be IBS symptoms, left hand sided abdominal pain after eating and movements 4 to 5 times after every meal with this pain. I guessed as I have had no blood it cant be anything untoward so I am hoping I will get a clear result otherwise I will be quite worried.

Thanks Chris. A friend of mine has just been told she has aortic stenosis. It was only found by accident, she had no symptoms and I just wondered if it would have been discovered earlier if she had an AAA or perhaps that's a completely different thing?

That nice Mr Google tells me that, while AAA is a bulging artery leading from the heart, aortic stenosis is the narrowing of a valve within the heart. So it seems that they're completely different things, Barsel.

Seriously? And you're looking for answers to a medical question on here? Buenchico has absolutely *ZERO* medical knowledge. In fact, it's well known that all he does is Google for answers, which you could do yourself.

Do yourself a HUGE favour and ask a specialist.

But he wasn't looking for 'answers', he was looking for 'experiences' and I can totally understand that. Of course he wants to know if anybody on here has had similar and how they coped, that's only natural. I hope you feel better gordie after the very kind answers on here and good luck x

geordie ,many threads on Body and Soul confuse me and this is one of them .

You have two concerns, firstly the result of your faecal test and secondly the abdominal pain that you have had since November.

In you case, I cannot see how the results of the faecal test is of any value. If the result comes back positive it doesnt mean that you have cancer and if it comes back negative it doesn't mean that you don't have cancer and in all likelihood it is very unlikely that you do have malignant disease , so dont place an great deal on your faecal test.

You main concern is your left sided abdominal pain which seems to be food related. This also doesnt smack of cancer, more probably of Diverticulitis which if continues may require a camera up the rectum and colon.

As to the other answers......AA and Aortic stenosis I am completely confused.
