My tongue stings and I don't know what has caused it. I will try Bonjella on it tomorrow but just wondered what could be causing it

When I have that is is usually hot cheese on a pizza that causes it.

Mine is constant Hopkirk No change in the look of my tongue and nothing sets it off
It can't be the Christmas stamps, you don't lick them any more.
Have you been licking the glue on the Christmas card envelopes?
Maybe thrush ?
Vitamin B12 deficiency? Is it also red? Just a guess.
What we don't know:
Any underlying medical conditions?
Are you taking any drugs e.g beta blockers?
How long have you had a sore tongue?
Does your tongue look normal? Any ulcers or does it look red like raw beef?

I might get a reply.
My apologies granny I didn't see your reply to hoppy confirming that your tongue appears normal.

This rules out an infection and makes B12 deficiency unlikely.

I await your further response.

I've had it about 3 weeks Squad My gums and lips also feel a little tingly domebiv the time. No ulcers. I take Omrprazole and Relva inhaler daily and Ibandronic acid once a month. Just had a course of steroids and antibiotics for a chest infection and asthma flare up - otherwise I'm well
Thanks for the helpful feedback granny.

Firstly I am sure that we are not dealing with anything sinister.

If your symptoms were preceded by your antibiotic administration, then that would be the answer and will go away shortly.

If your sore tongue and tingly lips continue for another 2 weeks, then see your GP who will test for B12 deficiency.

Had a diagnosis from my dentist as this hadn't cleared up. Apparently it is 'Burnt tongue syndrome' He suggested bicarbonate of soda mouth wash - this stung like billy oh. Dr Google suggested rinsing the mouth with vegetable oil - that was gross. I found something that works for me Quark and it is palatable. The dentist said that he it could be caused by lots of things. I think that it could be fruit acid as the irritation gets worse after eating some fruit
