well try over the counter and see if they work - there is another Aber on here and she says the over the counter ones knock her out. I am flabbergasted as nothing otc would knock me out - except Timothy's mallet.
just put my radio on with earphones and listen to a phone in or music show and soon fall off, or listen to music on my ipod (yes still have one)
I also find getting up for 10 minuits and having some cereal and cup of hot milk/oat milk helps
What I do is to lie there and visualise a silver ball (like a little ball-bearing) floating in front of my eyes.
When that doesn't work (I can't visualise now as well as I could in my youth) I pretend that I'm asleep, and lie there quietly until the alarm goes off in the middle of a dream.
I never get up and turn on lights and have a cup of tea! I persevere and I think I get as much benefit from pretending I am asleep as when I am really asleep. I haven't seen this approach mentioned anywhere else.
>>> those Nytol herbal tablets, are they the ones that taste disgusting?
No. I think that you're referring to the original Nytol ( https://www.nytol.co.uk/nytol-range/nytol-original ), which, if I recollect correctly tastes foul and does nothing for me other than giving me an incredibly dry mouth. (I suspect that Davebro is referring to that one too).
I find reading really helps. But, just to check- are you sure you aren't getting enough sleep? Can you sleep in the day, if needed? We do need less and less- and personally, I wouldn't fight it.
Atheist, that's certainly well-known for sleeping with babies, breathe slowly, pretend you are asleep, and they sleep to. Rest is fine, if you don't need to sleep.
