Please can anyone give me advice? I don’t get to sleep sometimes until 4 am. I have tried over the counter tablets and they work. But they have possible side effects which I looked up. Does anyone know what I should do for the best Thanks

Listen to the shipping forecast at 00:45 then count backwards from 100 using each breath for a number.

It'll get shorter over time.
if you can get sleep with over the counter tablets - just bloody take them. I don't know what side effects but they are not "dangerous" - if you can buy them so freely. Wish the OTC worked for me - but unfortunately I need Timothy Mallett and even then it wouldn't work -

I have friend who gets prescription sleep aid like 3.75 mg ambien because she has had cancer per se. - won't take them in case she gets addicted - ah Jesus - who cares if you get addicted at 72 - you are on your way out for god almight sake. take the bloody things.
pretty well everything has side effects. Don't start worrying until you actually have some.
Bobbie, I use a herbal Asda sleep aid that contains "extracts of hop strobile valerian and passion flower". It helps me drift off.
otc pills DO NOT WORK - it is only prescription that are the real macoy. so do yourself a favour and get a good nights sleep with your otc and have a good night's sleep.
don't worry worry till worry worries you LOL
or in your case until it "wearies" you lol.
some of them work for some people, jj. Some pills for other things have drowsiness as a side effect.
Jennyjoan, that last sentence makes so lottle sense is worthy of Peter Pedent. :-D
Unless you've got particular commitments at certain times of the day, I suggest simply forgetting about aiming for regular sleep patterns and simply sleeping when you really feel tired.

For example, I got up at about 0930 yesterday morning, after just one hour's sleep. I then stayed up until 0630 this morning, before sleeping for 13 hours until 1930 this evening. I might go to bed in a few hours time but it's possibly more likely that I'll stay up until the early hours of Monday morning. (I often stay up for anywhere between 20 and 50 hours). It seems to work for me!

Hey thanks to you all for your replies. I enjoyed them especially jj. I am quite a bit older than you tho. I can see your point about being old so it doesn’t really matter I suppose. Meanwhile, hope you all get a good night. Hope I will but I have taken my tablet x
I'm with Douglas on this one, I don't listen to the shipping forcast, but I find counting backwards works every time. I count back slowly using every inbreath to count on. I can never remember where I stopped, but I have never got to one and had to start again.

Just another remark, if I sleep too late, my neighbour who has a key will think that I have died and will come the house to see if I am ok.
Your last post is an interesting one Bobbie, everyone who knows me also knows I am a night owl and that I do not rise early.

I get up when I feel like it, make sure those that need to know that do too.

A neighbour recently told me he'd almost kicked the door in until someone tipped him off. :-)

Omg mama, I don’t really think my neighbour would come in at once. I think she would ring me then hammer the door
