Any ideas what I could get for my work colleague?, she is early 50s but quite young and trendy at heart. I didn't want to go for the usual wine/chocs etc... Want something original or funny or inventive but for around 20

One of those steerable kites that come in rainbow colours.

I have seen them on ebay for around 20 including postage.

A slinky.... it sort of walks downstairs all on its own and is great fun, otherwise a game or toy
try firebox.com, i got loads of stuff for work colleagues off there.
I think a fern would be a good choice

Depends what her interests or hobbies are.

A nice house plant; some HMV or Smiths vouchers; Book tokens; a scarf; Something china - eg. a funny shape biscuit barrel; some cooking utensils or an apron and oven gloves set; Something for her computer (you can get dressing up sets for the monitor so it has cow's horns or cat's ears); a completely useless ornament - like one of those things you turn upside down and watch the bubbles of different colours change levels.

i got my secret santa a sort of cocktail set out of ikea. they have the shakers, straws and stirrers, funky shaped ice cube trays, really nice cocktail glasses, trays and napkins. mine came to 11 but you could put in a selection of minatures to make it up to 20.

How about a really nice hippy/velvet/sparkly scarf? You can't go wrong with those sort of things. Do you have a hippy shop in your town? If not you could try ebay or Nomads?
