I woke up with what a would call a stich in my left side this morning about 8am. Really painful. Haven’t had one for years. Well it’s now about 16hours later and still the same - just as painful. Any ideas??

Shouldn't last that long.
Trapped wind can be painful..

If I even touch my abdomen on that side the pain is awful. Don’t know quite what to do.
Sounds muscular, you could have turned awkwardly in your sleep.
A 'stitch' is the layperson's name for what Sqad, et al, might call 'exercise-related transient abdominal pain'. The key part of that description is "exercise-related". Unless you've been doing a lot of exercise in your sleep, what you've got isn't a stitch!

One of many possibilities:

If you're worried, phone 111. Otherwise (if the pain persists) call your GP in the morning.
Crossed posts.

Call 111 for advice. (I've used that service a few times. You might get asked the same questions several times, by different people as they try to work out what your problem is, but it's worth it in the end).

I agree - I do walk /jog a lot but I literally woke up with this. Am in such pain just coughing
Yes, sound advice. Don't let it go on for too long.
Question Author
Even breathing in hurts.
If you are concerned why are you posting on here rather than contacting 111?
Question Author
I just didn’t want to bother 111
Smowball:
Two years ago, I was a total wally and suffered 11 days in pain (because I couldn't pee) before calling an ambulance. As well as putting myself through a lot of needless pain, I nearly killed myself because my kidneys were right on the point of ceasing to function when I arrived at the hospital.

There's not space on AB for TWO wallies, so call 111 NOW and seek advice, PLEASE!
Question Author
Ok buenchicho I promise xx
I still don’t understand why you posted here rather than contact 111. Who did you expect to be able to give you informed advice?
Question Author
I just like your advice x
Question Author
Still in the same pain, but will wait till a decent hour before calling anyone x
Folk are waiting for calls from folk just like you so you might as well just 'phone them the now.
The health service is there to assist anyone in need of advice eg. unexplained pain over a long period. No one on AB can give you a diagnosis smowball.
Right Smow - have you rung ?? Stop faffing about & call now !!!!
Question Author
I didn’t want to bother them but am still in pain and the same situation so am ringing now x
